BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska congressman is seeking to reclassify the Homestead National Monument in southeastern Nebraska as a National Historical Park.
Republican Rep. Adrian Smith, who represents Nebraska's vast rural 3rd District, announced his bill Thursday in a news release. Smith says the bill in intended to ensure the cultural and historical value of the 100-acre site just west of Beatrice.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Republican Congressman Adrian Smith says he's been selected to serve on the congressional delegation traveling to Montreal next week to negotiate the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Paul Theobald announced his intentions Wednesday, saying he wants to "bring vitality back to rural communities, bring a sense of community back to rural communities."
Theobald is a former dean at Wayne State University. He works remotely at University of Southern Indiana, teaching an online class. He and his wife raise hogs in Pierce County.
