The state's ag fairs begin in late June every year and run until early October, with stops all over the state. The schedule includes the organic and homesteading focused Common Ground Country Fair and some big draws such as the Bangor State Fair.
Local fairs building up to Tennessee State Fair in September
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — It's prime time for Tennessee's local fairs, and state agriculture officials say more than 3 million people visit the fairs every year.
The Agriculture Department said fairs last year paid out more than $1 million in premiums for more than 200,000 agricultural exhibits.
The agency says Tennessee's 60 agricultural fairs are run independently, with about 18,000 volunteers statewide.

The Skowhegan State Fair began on Thursday and runs until Aug. 18. The fair bills itself as "The Nation's Oldest Consecutively Running Agricultural Fair." Organizers say the first fair took place in 1819, a year before Maine became a state.

10-year-old selling lemonade to help hurricane victims
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — A 10-year-old resident in Maine is doing his part to help people impacted by hurricanes Harvey and Irma — raising money for the American Red Cross through his lemonade stand.
