Kyle Guy added 15 points for the Cavaliers (16-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who never trailed in the first meeting of the programs in which both were ranked in the top 10. Virginia also remained one of two unbeaten teams in the country along with Michigan, which was idle.
No. 9 Virginia Tech holds off Georgia Tech 52-49
ATLANTA (AP) — Ahmed Hill scored 15 points, Kerry Blackshear Jr. added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 9 Virginia Tech overcame a terrible shooting performance to beat Georgia Tech 52-49 on Wednesday night.
The Hokies (14-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) won their ninth straight game for the school's best start to a season since the 1982-83 team had an identical record. They never trailed after Georgia Tech led in the first minute.
Outlaw helps No. 10 Hokies down Fighting Irish, 81-66
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Ty Outlaw hit the first 3-pointer, and it became his turn to carry the No. 10 Hokies in a game when four guys took turns.
"He fuels me and we feed off each other," Outlaw said of Ahmed Hill, who made consecutive baskets before Outlaw's first 3-pointer from the corner, right in front of the Virginia Tech bench, splashed through in an 81-66 victory against Notre Dame on Tuesday.
"If one of us is going, we look at the other like, 'Hey, come on.' That's what we do," Outlaw said.
Hill leads No. 10 Hokies in 85-40 rout of Md.-Eastern Shore
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Ahmed Hill thought it was a perfect way to end the nonconference portion of No. 10 Virginia Tech's schedule.
Hill scored 20 points and the Hokies shot nearly 66 percent as they drubbed Maryland-Eastern Shore 85-40 on Friday night for their sixth consecutive victory.
"It's really good for my confidence," Hill said after making 7 of 10 shots overall and 6 of 9 3-point tries. "I just go game to game. Some games, shots fall and some games not, and today it was falling."
No. 13 Virginia Tech holds off Washington 73-61
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Virginia Tech handled some late pressure to earn a big victory Saturday night.
The 13th-ranked Hokies withstood a second-half rally from Washington to earn a 73-61 win in the Air Force Reserve Boardwalk Classic.
Nickell Alexander-Walker scored 24 points for Virginia Tech (9-1), which won its fourth straight since a one-point loss at Penn State on Nov. 27. Kerry Blackshear, Justin Robinson and Ahmed Hill scored 10 points apiece.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Kerry Blackshear Jr. called Virginia Tech's game against No. 10 North Carolina a "really big character test," coming on the heels of a loss at home against Florida State.
That was a game, Blackshear said, in which the Hokies "really didn't just come to play."
They passed this test with flying colors.
Justin Robinson scored 19 points, Ahmed Hill had 18 and the Hokies pulled away in the second half to beat the Tar Heels 80-69 on Monday night.

NEW YORK (AP) — Character was the theme espoused by Saint Louis coach Travis Ford and Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams.
Ford praised his team's ethos, as opposed to Williams, who wondered about his squad's makeup.
"What haunts me is our character was revealed in how we played," Williams said after Saint Louis topped Virginia Tech, 77-71, in the opening round of the 2K Classic on Thursday night.
"This was the first time I was caught off-guard," Williams said.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 24 points, Kerry Blackshear Jr. added 23 and Virginia Tech beat Detroit Mercy 111-79 on Friday night in a season opener.
Alexander-Walker, a six-foot-five freshman guard, was 9-of-14 shooting with four 3-pointers. Blackshear was 7 of 10 from the field and made 8 of 10 free throws. Ahmed Hill added 19 points, and Devin Wilson and P.J. Horne chipped in 10 points apiece.

Virginia Tech rallies in 2nd half to top Pitt 66-63
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Down big at the half, Virginia Tech dug deep to shoot 50 percent from the floor in the second half to spark a come-from-behind 66-63 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
Seth Allen made a 3-pointer with 1:08 remaining to give the Hokies the lead for good and Pitt missed three 3-point attempts on the final possession.
The Hokies are becoming close-game specialists, having played five conferences games decided by two possessions or less.
No. 12 Florida State rolls to 93-78 win over No. 21 Va. Tech
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Terance Mann scored 22 points and Dwayne Bacon added 17 as No. 12 Florida State defeated No. 21 Virginia Tech 93-78 on Saturday.
It is the first time since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference that the Seminoles have won their first three league games. FSU, which has won 11 straight, improved to 15-1, which matches it with the 1988-89 team for best start in school history thru 16 games.
Clarke’s double-double leads Virginia Tech over UMBC 87-70
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Chris Clarke had 22 points and 12 rebounds, leading Virginia Tech to an 87-70 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Wednesday night.
Ahmed Hill added 18, Seth Allen chipped in with 17 and Zach LeDay had 14 for the Hokies (11-1). UMBC (9-4) made a game of it early in the first half before ice cold shooting (25 percent, 9-36 at the break) left them down 40-27.
Hill lifts Virginia Tech past Charleston Southern
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Most winning coaches walk into a postgame news conference with smiles on their faces following 28-point victories.
But Virginia Tech's Buzz Williams is holding what he believes to be a special team to a much higher standard.
A tale of two halves doesn't begin to describe this one.
Up by four points on Virginia Tech at halftime, The Citadel's basketball team looked like it might be on its way to a first signature win under coach Duggar Baucom, and its first win over an ACC team since 1979.
And then the second half happened.
The Hokies scored 73 points after the break and cruised to a 113-71 victory over The Citadel at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams consistently cites Ahmed Hill as the toughest player in his program.
So it came as no surprise to him that Hill made the big plays in the final minute of a close non-conference game.
"I've been to where Med grew up," Williams said. "He'll be fine in the toughest situation you can create."

Texas A&M beats Virginia Tech in Wooden Legacy semifinal
FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — DJ Hogg scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Texas A&M to a 68-65 win over Virginia Tech in a Wooden Legacy semifinal on Friday.
Texas A&M (4-1) will play in the tournament championship while Virginia Tech (4-1) plays in the third-place game. Both games are Sunday in Anaheim.
Hogg also grabbed 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, and scored the final five points for the Aggies.
Robinson, Virginia Tech cruises to 92-72 win over New Mexico
FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Justin Robinson had 22 points and eight assists, Ahmed Hill added 18 points and Virginia Tech defeated New Mexico 92-72 in the first round of the Wooden Legacy on Thursday.
Chris Clarke had eight points, nine rebounds and four assists as the Hokies (4-0) capitalized on timely three-point shooting, an edge on the glass and good ball movement.
