Newark Airport parking garage fire damages numerous vehicles
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A parking garage fire at Newark Liberty International Airport that damaged more than a dozen vehicles has been extinguished.
Authorities say the fire began at shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday on the rooftop of the garage for the airport's Terminal C.
Seventeen cars were damaged. The fire sent flames and heavy black smoke spewing into the air. No injuries have been reported.
Alaska Air Group plans to add 3,000 jobs this year
SEATTLE (AP) — Alaska Air Group says it plans to add more than 3,000 jobs this year, with three-fourths of the positions opening in Washington state.
The Seattle Times reports the Seattle-based airline group says the new jobs will include maintenance technicians, airport operations, customer service, cargo specialists, flight attendants and pilots.

Bomb squad investigating package at Atlanta airport
ATLANTA (AP) — A bomb squad is inspecting a suspicious package found at the international terminal of the Atlanta airport Sunday morning.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Atlanta police and fire are on the scene investigating.
Police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown said the package was found outside the terminal and airport operations were not affected.

Mysterious liquids at Florida airport make officers ill
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Orlando International Airport officials say four security officers fell ill after checking the contents of oversized containers holding liquids.
Two of the Transportation Security Administration officers and an airport operations worker were taken to the hospital "out of an abundance of caution" on Tuesday. The liquids ended up being a form of herbal tea.
Airport officials say in a statement that airport operations weren't affected by the incident.
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — T.F. Green Airport is receiving a federal grant to improve runways and protect wetlands near the facility.

Cargo plane blows tire, lands safely at JFK airport
NEW YORK (AP) — A cargo plane made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport because of a blown-out tire.
The plane landed safely and no one was injured.
WABC-TV reports the Atlas Air Cargo flight made its descent shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says passengers evacuated a plane at Reagan National Airport after smoke was reported in the cabin.

PHOENIX (AP) — Cranes, back hoes and other heavy equipment are being set up to move a drilling rig that toppled on its side near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, trapping a construction worker.

Brazilian plane tests have a positive impact on airport, community economy
SCOTTSBLUFF — After landing in Scottsbluff more than a week ago, an Embrarer KC-390 plane, flown by members of the Brazilian military, has created a stir and a positive economic impact for the local community.
The most immediate impact could be seen at the Flight Deck Restaurant. Tammy Relka, co-owner of the restaurant, said the large crew has kept her busy.
“They are very good eaters and they were so happy that I do homemade food because they are tired of fast food,” she said.
HUNTINGTON — Huntington Tri-State Airport Authority has named Brent Brown as the airport's director, according to a news release.
For the past 14 months, Brown has served as airport deputy director alongside former director Jerry Brienza. Prior to that, he was the airport operations supervisor for the County of Ventura's Department of Airports in California.
A 2009 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Brown began his aviation training while he served in the U.S. Navy from 2002-07.

Residential wells contaminated near Fairbanks airport
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — An inspection found contaminants in several wells that supply water to residents and businesses near Fairbanks International Airport.
The contaminants, perfluorinated compounds, are used to make products such as firefighting foam and are dangerous if ingested. The Environmental Protection Agency has linked exposure to low birth weights, and even forms of cancer.
Indianapolis airport adding electric buses for shuttle fleet
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis International Airport is starting to use electric buses for shuttling passengers between its terminal and parking lots.
Airport officials say the first electric bus is in operation and that it will have five more by early next year. Plans are to have nine electric buses in the shuttle fleet by late 2019.
The airport says it is buying the new buses with $3.6 million in zero emissions vehicle grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.
TSA says Virginia man had loaded gun in carry-on luggage
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — A Virginia man is facing a weapons charge after authorities say he tried to bring a loaded handgun through security at Reagan National Airport.
Local media reported Sunday that Transportation Security Administration officers stopped the Manassas man at a checkpoint Thursday after they found the loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun in his carry-on luggage.

New York Army National Guard officials say 125 members of the Buffalo-based 152nd Engineer Co. of the 204th Engineer Battalion are now scheduled to depart Thursday morning from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. The departure was originally scheduled for Wednesday.

Flight diverted from Appleton due to medical emergency
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A United Express flight from Appleton to Chicago has been diverted to Milwaukee because of a medical emergency.
Emergency crews rushed to the plane after it landed at Mitchell International Airport around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday. Airport officials tell WISN -TV a male passenger suffered a medical emergency on the flight and had to be treated by paramedics.
Airport worker struck, seriously injured by moving propeller
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a worker was struck and seriously injured by a moving airline propeller at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police department spokesman Joseph Pentangelo says the accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday in a maintenance area of the airport across from Terminal A.
The victim was struck by a CommutAir plane that was not on the runway at the time. Ohio-based CommutAir operates flights for United Express.
Delta flight makes emergency medical stop in North Dakota

Fort Wayne International Airport passed its annual Federal Aviation Administration inspection without any discrepancies for the third year in a row.
The most recent inspection took place Aug. 8 to Thursday, a statement from the airport said.
The three-day inspection entails an on-site inspector examining all areas of airport operations from recordkeeping to aircraft rescue and response.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico authorities say an inactive grenade has prompted a partial evacuation at the island's main airport.
Police report that a 17-year-old passenger was carrying the grenade in his backpack. It belonged to his father, who was once in the military.
Transportation Security Administration agents spotted it during an X-ray scan Friday and evacuated an area at Luis Munoz Marin airport near the capital, San Juan.
LIHUE — Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) announced Monday that Hawaii will receive over $2 million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to enhance airport operations and runway safety at the Lihue, Kahului and Molokai airports.

Airport Director Robert Kennedy says a baggage porter had spotted the unattended bag in a ticketing and check-in zone Tuesday afternoon. The porter alerted airport security officials, who then notified Cleveland police.
Roads leading to the airport were closed off around 2 p.m. A K-9 unit and bomb squad were brought in to examine the bag.

Hundreds of O’Hare airport workers vote to strike
CHICAGO (AP) — Hundreds of O'Hare International Airport workers have voted to go on strike ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Service Employees International Union Local 1 officials said Thursday that about 500 workers have committed to strike. Union spokeswoman Izabela Miltko-Ivkovich said the strike "will definitely take place in the coming days," though she didn't specify which day it will start.
The Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport has three owners, at least for now.
