DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Pistons are without two potential starters for their season opener Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets.

Forward Stanley Johnson is out with a toe issue and guard Reggie Bullock is missing the game because of illness. Rookie guard Bruce Brown is in the starting lineup for the short-handed Pistons.

PHOENIX (AP) — A person with knowledge of the situation says that Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver and general manager Ryan McDonough are meeting with star guard Devin Booker to discuss a new contract.

The person sought anonymity because the meeting, to take place Tuesday in Los Angeles, was not publicly announced.

Booker, just 21 but entering his fourth NBA season, is considered the heart of the Suns' plans for the future and a strong candidate for a maximum contract.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns have signed guard Isaiah Canaan after receiving an injury hardship exemption from the NBA.

Canaan will be available Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors.

Under the exemption, the Suns added Canaan because they have four players on the roster out for two weeks or more. Star guard Devin Booker is out with a groin injury, and Alan Williams, Davon Reed, and Brandon Knight have serious knee injuries.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns went back to work Monday, not quite as young as they were before but still with a long road ahead before their youthful talent matures into NBA contenders.

They will move forward without Alan Williams, the energetic, emotional center who played his way into a regular role late last season and signed a three-year, $17 million contract with $6 million guaranteed. It was a big reward for a player who grew up in Phoenix and whose mother is the city's police chief.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns have signed big man Alan Williams to a three-year, $17 million contract.

The restricted free agent agreed to the deal earlier this month and the Suns announced he re-signed on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Williams averaged 7.4 points on 51 percent shooting and 6.2 rebounds in 47 games last season, his second in the NBA.
