Davison, Happ, No. 24 Wisconsin beat No. 21 Maryland 69-61
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin is used to getting production out of Ethan Happ and Brad Davison.
Lately, role players such as Aleem Ford have been coming up big, too.
Davison scored 21 points and Happ added 18 points and 11 rebounds as the 24th-ranked Badgers beat No. 21 Maryland 69-61 on Friday night.
Reserve Illikainen leaves Wisconsin, thinning frontcourt
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin reserve forward Alex Illikainen is leaving the basketball team, sapping depth for an already thin frontcourt.
The Badgers say that he will remain enrolled at the university. Coach Greg Gard thanked Illikainen for his contributions.
The rarely-used senior averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 85 career games. He still figured to be an option off the bench at times because of his experience, especially if starters Ethan Happ and Nathan Reuvers got into foul trouble.
Wisconsin’s Aleem Ford out indefinitely with knee injury
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin forward Aleem Ford is out indefinitely with a knee injury, a blow to the Badgers' frontcourt depth.
Ford will have surgery, but is expected to return later this season, the team said on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-8 Ford figured to be the first forward off the bench for coach Greg Gard's team. He averaged 5.8 points and shot a team-high 40.9 percent from 3-point range in playing all 33 games, including 20 starts.
Reserve F Andy Van Vliet transferring from Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Reserve forward Andy Van Vliet plans to transfer from Wisconsin after three years with the program.
Coach Greg Gard says the 7-foot jump-shooter was granted his release to explore a transfer on Tuesday.
Van Vliet appeared in 31 games over two seasons, averaging 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 2017-18. He had career highs of 18 points and eight rebounds in the season opener against South Carolina State.
