Lately, role players such as Aleem Ford have been coming up big, too.

Reserve Illikainen leaves Wisconsin, thinning frontcourt
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin reserve forward Alex Illikainen is leaving the basketball team, sapping depth for an already thin frontcourt.
The Badgers say that he will remain enrolled at the university. Coach Greg Gard thanked Illikainen for his contributions.
The rarely-used senior averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 85 career games. He still figured to be an option off the bench at times because of his experience, especially if starters Ethan Happ and Nathan Reuvers got into foul trouble.
Wisconsin’s Aleem Ford out indefinitely with knee injury
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin forward Aleem Ford is out indefinitely with a knee injury, a blow to the Badgers' frontcourt depth.
Ford will have surgery, but is expected to return later this season, the team said on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-8 Ford figured to be the first forward off the bench for coach Greg Gard's team. He averaged 5.8 points and shot a team-high 40.9 percent from 3-point range in playing all 33 games, including 20 starts.
Reserve F Andy Van Vliet transferring from Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Reserve forward Andy Van Vliet plans to transfer from Wisconsin after three years with the program.

Badgers men’s basketball: Wisconsin cruises to 82-53 win over UMass Lowell at home
Playing through the post is always the preferred method of operation for the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team.
It’s just easier to follow that plan against some opponents.
Like Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center, where the Badgers closed the non-conference portion of their schedule by rolling to an 82-53 victory over overmatched UMass Lowell.
Badgers men’s basketball: Brad Davison helps Wisconsin pull out 81-80 win over Western Kentucky

Stuck in a rut and down two key players, the Badgers desperately needed a win. It didn’t matter to them whether it was pretty, ugly or even controversial.
As it turned out, UW’s 81-80 victory over Western Kentucky at the Kohl Center included all three of those elements.
Badgers men’s basketball: Greg Gard sees improvement as Wisconsin rolls over UW-Milwaukee 71-49
Greg Gard believes his team learned some things during a three-game losing streak.
So did the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball coach, who came to the conclusion that it was time to add another body to his frontcourt.
Gard made another significant move Friday night during the Badgers’ 71-49 victory over UW-Milwaukee at the Kohl Center, playing Nate Reuvers for the first time this season.
Badgers men’s basketball: Greg Gard more focused on his young team than first-year coach Pat Baldwin’s UW-Milwaukee squad
University of Wisconsin men’s basketball coach Greg Gard has been so consumed with his own team and its busy schedule he hasn’t been able to pay too much attention to one of his former teams.
Gard was an assistant at UW-Milwaukee for two seasons under Bo Ryan.
The Badgers (2-3) will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Panthers (4-1) Friday night at the Kohl Center.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ethan Happ remembers how hard it was to shake off the rust after redshirting as a freshman in 2014-15, so the junior center for the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team understands what Aleem Ford is going through.
But even Happ admits Ford, a redshirt freshman forward, is in a more challenging situation.
