The Azzurri's failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup means that a good portion of the squad's players will not have appeared in football's premier tournament by the time they approach their 30s.
Winger Alessandro Florenzi will be 31 by the time the next World Cup rolls around. Center forward Andrea Belotti will be 28, as will playmaker Federico Bernardeschi and striker Domenico Berardi.

MILAN (AP) — Simone Zaza and Alessandro Florenzi are back in the Italy squad for the first time in a year, and there was also a surprise call-up for Jorghino for the World Cup playoff against Sweden.

ROME (AP) — Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee again, ending his season.
Roma team physician Riccardo Del Vescovo made the announcement Friday, saying Florenzi will undergo arthroscopic surgery.
Florenzi has been out since tearing his ACL during a match against Sassuolo in October. He was re-injured in training last week but the injury was not confirmed until it was examined Friday.

ROME (AP) — Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi could be out for up to four months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The Italy international was injured during the second half of Roma's 3-1 win at Sassuolo on Wednesday. He was carried off the field in tears.
Roma, which is two points behind Serie A leader Juventus, says Florenzi will undergo surgery on Thursday.
