Illinois State beats NAIA St. Xavier 46-0
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — James Robinson ran for two touchdowns and Illinois State shut out St. Xavier University of the NAIA 46-0 on Saturday night in a season opener.
Robinson had 39 yards on eight carries for the Redbirds. Jordan Birch led the ground game with 52 yards and a score and Markel Smith and Nick Kielbasa each ran for a touchdown. Quarterback Brady Davis threw for 79 yards and a score.
Roseburg dancers win at Spotlight Cup’s Pacific Northwest competition
Roseburg dancers Izzy Green, Kennady Trenkle and Lily Brown won first place at the Spotlight Cup dance competition at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland with their contemporary dance ‘3 Elements.’
“It brought tears to my eyes,” Sasha Martinez, co-owner of Leap of Faith Dance Center, said.
The dance was choreographed by Alex Martinez and is a mash-up of different songs inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender, containing the elements of water, earth and fire.
A year ago, Uvalde junior Adelyhda Perez came up one win short in her bid to win gold in Class 5A’s 148-pound division.
The loss served as the perfect motivation. Perez responded with a perfect season, topping Frisco Liberty’s Ashley Cook 7-3 Saturday in the final at the UIL state wrestling championships at the Berry Center in Cypress, near Houston.
A man accused of fatally shooting a neighbor he was arguing with in a Northeast Side mobile home park in March was arrested by authorities Wednesday.
Alex Martinez Ortiz, 20, faces a murder charge in the shooting death of Mark Hughes, 29. Hughes was found lying in the street at about 12:30 a.m. on March 29 in the 6700 block of Walzem Road, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
