Eight years in making, Jason Krizan waits for shot on Tigers
Sarasota, Fla. — Tigers outfielder Jason Krizan was perched on the top step of the dugout at Ed Smith Stadium on Monday morning while the Orioles were taking batting practice.
In the cage was former Tiger Alex Presley, whose big-league experience could serve as a cautionary tale for Krizan, if he thought about it.

Alex Presley, Orioles agree to minor league contract
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Alex Presley and the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a minor league contract, and the outfielder will report to major league spring training.
The 32-year-old has a .263 average in eight seasons with Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Houston, Milwaukee and Detroit. He hit .314 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in 71 games for the Tigers in 2017.
Presley plays all three outfield positions. He stole five bases without being thrown out last season.
Tigers pare 40-man roster to 31 with four more cuts
Detroit — The Tigers continue to trim their 40-man roster.
On Friday, the Tigers outrighted pitchers Kyle Ryan and Myles Jaye, as well as catcher Bryan Holaday and first baseman Efren Navarro.
On Thursday, the club lost utility man Andrew Romine off waivers to Seattle. Additionally, it outrighted outfielders Alex Presley, Jim Adduci and Tyler Collins, as well as pitcher Jeff Ferrell.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Daniel Norris threw five scoreless innings to pick up his first victory in more than three months as the Detroit Tigers snapped a season-high nine-game losing streak by beating the Kansas City Royals 4-1 on Thursday night.
Norris (5-8) gave up two hits in five innings. He was 0-4 in four starts and four relief appearances since a June 16 triumph over Tampa Bay.

Jose Iglesias had three hits, including a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the seventh, and Greene struck out Eduardo Escobar to preserve the lead in a 9-6 win over Minnesota 9-6 that took 4 hours, 19 minutes — the longest nine-inning game in Twins history.
All-Star Fulmer outlasts Kluber as Tigers top Indians 5-3
CLEVELAND (AP) — Michael Fulmer won't pitch in his first All-Star Game, not because he isn't worthy.
Under the bright lights and on a big stage Sunday night, Fulmer again showed why he's Miami-bound.
Fulmer outlasted All-Star teammate Corey Kluber, Alex Presley hit a tiebreaking, two-run double and the Detroit Tigers hung on late to salvage the series finale with a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night.
Cron and Calhoun homer to lead Angels past Tigers
DETROIT (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels didn't make things easy for themselves on Tuesday night.
The Angels led the Detroit Tigers 4-0 in the fifth inning, but closer Bud Norris had to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam to finish off a 5-3 victory.
"That's a nice win against a hot team," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "We had some trouble closing out some innings, including the ninth, but we got it done."
Tigers’ center field position is up for grabs
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Open competition for a starting position has become a rarity in spring training. Yet that is what the Detroit Tigers have in center field as they prepare for this weekend's start of the exhibition season.
"The guys involved know it's open, and it's a performance-based game," manager Brad Ausmus said. "I don't love judging people in spring training, but in this case we're going to have to use it a little bit."
