ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Makinde London scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and tenth-seeded Chattanooga beat seventh-seeded Samford 89-79 in Friday night's opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament to snap a five-game skid.
David Jean-Baptiste and Rodney Chatman scored 18 points apiece and James Lewis Jr. added 14 points for the Mocs (4-15), who face No. 2 seed ETSU on Saturday.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Ross Cummings hit four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and Jordan Strawberry had 18 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals to help Mercer beat Samford 74-69 on Monday night.
Cummings, a sophomore who came in averaging 6.1 points per game, has scored in double figures in each of the last five games and has made 22 of 45 from 3-point range during that span. He is averaging 19.7 points during Mercer's three-game win streak.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Mike Amius had his second career double-double and Devin Peterson made five 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, both career highs, on Saturday night to help Western Carolina beat Samford 88-71.
Amius had career highs with 28 points, on 12-of-14 shooting, and 13 rebounds. Peterson made 10 of 16 from the field.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Fletcher Magee scored 31 points with eight 3-pointers and Wofford beat Samford 93-89 on Thursday night to win its fifth straight.
Trevor Stumpe scored 18 points with seven assists, Cameron Jackson added 12 points and Derrick Brooks had 10 with 12 rebounds for the Terriers (13-5, 4-1 Southern Conference), who made 14 of 30 3-pointers (46.7 percent) and shot 53.7 percent from the floor (36 of 67).
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Demetrius Denzel-Dyson and Triston Chambers combined for 11 3-pointers and 50 points and Samford used a big first half to race to a 107-91 win over The Citadel in a battle of Bulldogs on Thursday night.
Denzel-Dyson had 16 of his 26 points in the first half when Samford (7-10, 3-1 Southern Conference) made 10 of 16 3-pointers and 19 of 29 shots overall, opening a 55-31 lead.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Demetirus Denzel-Dyson scored 21 points and Triston Chambers nailed five from long range for 15 as Samford dominated Western Carolina 85-71 in Southern Conference action on Saturday night.
Denzel-Dyson drilled 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. Chambers missed just two field goal attempts, hitting 5 of 7 from distance. Alex Thompson and Eric Adams added 13 points apiece for Samford (6-10, 2-1).
