"It was one of the best matches of my life," Coric said.

NEW YORK (AP) — Peter Polansky was still trying to qualify for the U.S. Open when fellow players began congratulating him.
When it comes to tennis' luckiest loser, there was no need to wait to see if he'd win.
Polansky lost to No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev on Tuesday in the first round, but not until after he'd become the first player to compete in all four Grand Slam tournaments in a season as a "lucky loser."
US OPEN ’18: Zverev leads group of up-and-comers in New York
Alexander Zverev has shown he can win run-of-the-mill tournaments and Masters titles, too. He's shown he can make it to the second week of a major.
What everyone is watching — and waiting — for now is a Grand Slam semifinal, final or trophy.
"Sascha Zverev," said Citi Open co-founder and chairman Donald Dell, using Zverev's nickname after the 21-year-old German won Washington's hard-court tuneup for the U.S. Open a second consecutive year, "is the future of pro tennis."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Alexander Zverev's second Citi Open title in a row is merely the latest sign that he is separating himself from the other up-and-coming youngsters in tennis.
That doesn't mean he is sure that guys such as Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal are worrying just yet.
"You've got to ask them. I don't think Roger's too concerned about it," Zverev said with a smile. "He's somewhere in Switzerland right now, enjoying ... his milk from his cow."
WASHINGTON (AP) — Alexander Zverev is back in the final at the Citi Open.
The defending champion beat 10th-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals Saturday. The top-seeded German is looking to become the first back-to-back winner of the hard-court U.S. Open tuneup since Juan Martin del Potro in 2008 and 2009.
Zverev has won 15 of 17 career matches in Washington.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Defending champion Alexander Zverev returned to the Citi Open semifinals by coming back for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over No. 7 seed Kei Nishikori at the rain-drenched tournament Friday.
Only two other men's and women's quarterfinals were completed before all play was called off on a wet day that also included three-time major champion Andy Murray's withdrawal.
WASHINGTON (AP) — For brothers Alexander and Mischa Zverev, this was, in many ways, just like many another day on the professional tennis tour: They warmed up together at a tournament.
The difference on Thursday at the Citi Open, where Alexander is the defending champion and seeded No. 1? For the first time after one of those practice sessions, the two Zverevs faced each other in an ATP main-draw match.
LONDON (AP) — Ernests Gulbis is a former top-10 player and Grand Slam semifinalist. A series of injuries pushed him down the rankings and kept him off the ATP Tour for long stretches, instead relegated to lower-tier Challenger tournaments.
Look at him now. Healthy and playing well, he's made it all the way to Wimbledon's fourth round for the first time in 11 appearances at the All England Club after upsetting No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev 7-6 (2), 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 on Saturday.
LONDON (AP) — The Latest from Wimbledon (all times local):
Defending champion Garbine Muguruza is out of Wimbledon in the second round.
Muguruza, the No. 3 seed, was stunned 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 by 47th-ranked Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium.
The surprise means only two of the top eight seeded women are still in the field after only four days of action at the All England Club.
Van Uytvanck entered this year's edition of Wimbledon with a 1-4 record in the grass-court tournament.
Federer to defend Hopman Cup title
PERTH, Australia (AP) — World No. 2 Roger Federer has confirmed he will defend the Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis title in Perth in December with Switzerland teammate Belinda Bencic.

PARIS (AP) — Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep needed strong French Open showings to hold onto their top rankings. They did just that, becoming the first pair of ATP and WTA No. 1s to both win the title at Roland Garros since Jim Courier and Monica Seles in 1992.
Nadal sits barely ahead of No. 2 Roger Federer on Monday, with a 100-point lead of 8,770 to 8,670.
They would have switched places if the Spaniard had failed to win his record-extending 11th championship Sunday.
PARIS (AP) — A quick look at the French Open:
LOOKAHEAD TO SUNDAY
The men's and women's second-seeded players are in fourth-round action at the French Open.
No. 2 Alexander Zverev of Germany faces big-hitting Russian Karen Khachanov, a familiar face from back in their junior days.
"We know each other pretty well," the 21-year-old Zverev said. "Also we are good outside the court, with his parents, they know me and I know them well."
PARIS (AP) — Talented and pegged-for-success as Alexander Zverev might be, there he was in the French Open's main stadium Friday, on the precipice of a third-round defeat and yet another Grand Slam disappointment.
A loss would have left the No. 2-seeded Zverev with an 0-8 record at major tournaments against men ranked in the top 50. A loss also would have left his resume still with merely one trip as far as the round of 16 at any Slam — and zero such runs at Roland Garros.
