LONDON (AP) — Tragicomic royal drama "The Favourite" and Mexican family memoir "Roma" split the honors with multiple wins each at Sunday's British Academy Film Awards — victories that suggest a wind of change may be blowing through the movie industry.
"The Favourite" won seven trophies including best British film and best actress for OIivia Colman, who plays Britain's 18th century Queen Anne in the female-centric drama.

LONDON (AP) — The Latest on the British Academy Film Awards (all times local):
Alfonso Cuaron's lyrical "Roma" has been named best picture at the British Academy Film Awards.
It bested "The Favourite," which bookies had favored to win the top prize at Britain's equivalent of the Oscars.
Cuaron thanked Netflix for backing "a black and white film about a domestic worker" that is not in English.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Roma" director Alfonso Cuaron has won the top honor from the Directors Guild of America and solidified his spot as the Oscar front-runner.
Cuaron won out over Spike Lee for "BlacKkKlansman," Bradley Cooper for "A Star Is Born," Peter Farrelly for "Green Book" and Adam McKay for "Vice" at the 71st DGA Awards Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Since 1948, there has been only seven times that the DGA winner did not take the Academy Award for directing.

Alfonso Cuaron and his film ‘Roma’ win at Golden Globes
Alfonso Cuaron's "Roma" won the best foreign language film and best director honors at the Golden Globes, giving the Netflix film some added awards season momentum.
Cuaron based the film on a nanny who raised him in the 1970s in Mexico and he said during his acceptance speech on Sunday night that he was in awe of the film's two lead actresses, Marina de Tavira and Yalitza Aparicio.
