BERLIN (AP) — Bayern Munich survived a scare in winning 3-2 at Augsburg on Friday to close the gap on Bundesliga leader Borussia Dortmund to two points.
Kingsley Coman twice equalized before setting up Serge Gnabry's winner early in the second half, taking second-place Bayern up to 48 points before Dortmund's game at last-place Nuremberg on Monday.
Finnbogason hat trick helps Augsburg forget week of turmoil
BERLIN (AP) — Alfred Finnbogason scored a hat trick in the snow to help Augsburg end its week of turmoil with a 3-0 win over Mainz in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
The heavy snowfall failed to put the Iceland striker off as he converted two penalties awarded for handball in the first half, then sealed the result with his third goal early in the second.
The win, Augsburg's first after a run of 10 games, lifted the side three points clear of the relegation zone.
Augsburg’s Finnbogason repeats hat trick against Freiburg
BERLIN (AP) — Iceland striker Alfred Finnbogason kept with tradition by scoring a hat trick for Augsburg in its 4-1 win against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Finnbogason, who scored against Argentina in Iceland's debut at this year's World Cup, also got a hat trick in the 3-3 draw between Augsburg and Freiburg last season.
Gregoritsch scores 2 as Augsburg beats Werder Bremen 3-0
Austria forward Michael Gregoritsch scored twice for Augsburg in a 3-0 win at struggling Werder Bermen in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Gregoritsch scored in each half, either side of a penalty from Iceland striker Alfred Finnbogason in first-half stoppage time.
Gregoritsch has been in good form this season and improved his tally to five in nine league games.
The defeat keeps Bremen in relegation trouble with five points from 10 games. Augsburg is ninth with 15 points.
BERLIN (AP) — Hertha Berlin capitalized on its strong record at home to defeat Augsburg 2-0 on Sunday, ending its three-game losing run while leaving the visitors in the Bundesliga's relegation zone.
With 11 wins from 14 games at home compared to seven straight defeats away, Hertha would doubtless gladly play all of its games at the Olympiastadion, though it recently announced plans for a new purpose-built stadium.
