Medvedev beats Raonic to reach semifinals in Brisbane
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev reached the semifinals at the Brisbane International by beating Milos Raonic 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 on Friday.
The score was level at 4-4 in the third when Medvedev got the decisive break on a succession of unforced errors from the 2016 Brisbane champion.
Medvedev will next play 2008 Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who beat Alex de Minaur 6-4, 7-6 (2).
Nadal withdraws, Murray loses to Medvedev in Brisbane

PRAGUE (AP) — Top-seeded Karolina Pliskova withdrew from her home Prague Open because of a right thigh injury on Monday.
Pliskova won the Stuttgart Open on Sunday for her 10th-career WTA title, and the previous week helped the Czech Republic beat Germany in Stuttgart in the Fed Cup semifinals.
Pliskova was due to face her sister Krystina in the first round. Her spot in the draw was taken by Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, and lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch of Germany came into the main draw.
Fed Cup: Germany upsets Belarus 3-2 in Minsk to make semis
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Tatjana Maria won two points in her first Fed Cup tie in seven years and led Germany past 2017 finalist Belarus and into the semifinals on Sunday.
The Germans, who last appeared in the semifinals in 2015, will host the Czech Republic in April. They last met the Czechs in the 2014 final, losing it 3-1.

MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Belarus and Germany finished 1-1 after the opening singles of their Fed Cup World Group tie on Saturday.
After Aryna Sabalenka beat Tatjana Maria, playing her first tie for Germany in seven years, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, Belarus would have expected to go 2-0 up.
But Antonia Lottner, making her Fed Cup debut for Germany, upset Aliaksandra Sasnovich, ranked more than 100 spots higher, 7-5, 6-4.
"I feel amazing," Lottner said. "I was so nervous, my pulse must have been 200 (bpm)."
Fed Cup: 2017 finalist Belarus set for rookie Germans

United States beats Belarus to win its 18th Fed Cup title
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — A 17-year championship drought came to an end Sunday for the United States when it beat Belarus 3-2 to take its 18th Fed Cup title.
CoCo Vandeweghe and Shelby Rogers defeated Aryna Sabalenka and Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the deciding doubles of the 2017 final. It was the first Fed Cup title for the U.S. since 2000.
"It feels perfectly believable and unbelievable," Vandeweghe said. "I'm ready for a vacation."
Top-seeded Carreno Busta knocked out of Kremlin Cup
MOSCOW (AP) — Top-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta was knocked out of the Kremlin Cup in the second round by Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday.
The Russian broke 11th-ranked Carreno Busta twice in each set.
Medvedev's win sets up a quarterfinal against Bosnian qualifier Mirza Basic.
Mladenovic, Vandeweghe lose opening matches at Kremlin Cup
MOSCOW (AP) — Kristina Mladenovic and Coco Vandeweghe were among six seeded players to make an exit from the Kremlin Cup on Wednesday.
The run of defeats left seventh-seeded Julia Goerges, the world No. 27, as the highest-ranked player remaining.
Top-seeded Mladenovic landed only 49 percent of her first serves and was beaten 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 by Aliaksandra Sasnovich, while No. 2 seed Vandeweghe lost 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 to Lesia Tsurenko.
Mladenovic and Vandeweghe had both received byes in the first round.
Pliskova advances to 2nd round at Japan Women’s Open
TOKYO (AP) — Fourth-seeded Kristyna Pliskova advanced to the second round of the Japan Women's Open by beating Chang Kai-chen of Taiwan 7-5, 7-5 on Monday.
The Czech had 14 aces in hot and windy conditions at Ariake Colloseum and will face either Nao Hibino or Miyu Kato in the second round.
Third-seeded Elise Mertens of Belgium also advanced, beating Evgeniya Rodina of Russia 7-6 (6), 6-1.
Belarus stuns Switzerland to reach 1st Fed Cup final
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Belarus surprised a higher-rated Swiss team 3-2 to reach its first-ever Fed Cup final Sunday.
No. 125-ranked Aryna Sabalenka gave the Belarusians an unassailable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five match as she beat Viktorija Golubic 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. The Swiss then won a dead rubber.
The Belarusian victory sets up a final against the United States in November, when Belarus should have the services of former No. 1-ranked player Victoria Azarenka.
Bacsinszky strikes back for Swiss in Fed Cup semifinal
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Timea Bacsinszky downed Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets to bring Switzerland level with Belarus at 1-1 in their Fed Cup semifinal on Saturday.
Bacsinszky took full advantage of 50 unforced errors from 19-year-old Sabalenka to win 6-4, 7-5.
That canceled out an upset win for Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich against Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic in the opening rubber.
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Belarus named an unchanged team for the Fed Cup semifinals against Switzerland on Wednesday, without a single player in the top 100.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich leads a team also featuring Aryna Sabalenka, Olga Govortsova and Vera Lapko, the squad which beat the Netherlands 4-1 in the first round.

MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Kiki Bertens saved a match point on Saturday before beating Aryna Sabalenka to level the Netherlands' Fed Cup match against Belarus at 1-1.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich gave Belarus the lead with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Michaella Krajicek in the opening rubber of the day, before 24th-ranked Bertens took on Aryna Sabalenka, who is 118 places lower.
Nara upsets third-seeded Putintseva to advance at Japan Open
TOKYO (AP) — Local favorite Kurumi Nara upset third-seeded Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open.
Nara secured the win when she broke Putintseva's serve in the final game of the second set and will next face Jana Cepelova of Slovakia.
In other matches, sixth-seeded Shuai Zhang of China overpowered Naomi Osaka of Japan 6-3, 6-2 to book her spot in the last eight.
