AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) — A man fatally shot one Georgia police officer and wounded a second before fleeing an apartment complex near a college campus that went on lockdown as a precaution, authorities said. They said the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous.

AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) — The head of an animal rescue group says that a litter of puppies found in a trash dumpster in south Georgia are safe.
Lake Blackshear Rescue President Glenda Cannon said the puppies were healthy when someone found them in the dumpster.
Cannon said the woman was dumping her trash when she saw one of the puppies come out, and the others then followed one by one.
