Coastal Carolina hits 15 3s, beats Troy 88-75
TROY, Ala. (AP) — Tyrell Gumbs-Frater scored 20 on Thursday night and Coastal Carolina made a season-high 15 3-pointers on just 25 attempts to open the Sun Belt season with an 88-75 win over Troy.
Gumbs-Frater tied his career high with six made 3s on nine attempts for the Chanticleers (7-6). Zac Cuthbertson added 17 points, David Kralj scored 15, and Trevion Brown and Amidou Bamba had 11 points apiece.
Coastal Carolina beats Methodist 88-57 behind Cuthbertson
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Zac Cuthbertson had 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Amidou Bamba added 14 points and 10 boards and Coastal Carolina never trailed in beating Division III Methodist 88-57 on Tuesday night.
David Kralj scored 11 points with three 3-pointers and Trevion Brown made five assists for the Chanticleer (4-3), who shot 57 percent and outrebounded Methodist 40-23.
McDonald scores 31, Northern Kentucky beats Coastal Carolina
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) — Drew McDonald had seven of his season-high 31 points in the final four minutes to help Northern Kentucky close out the NKU Basketball Classic with an 89-83 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday night.
McDonald's layup with 1:26 left made it 84-76 for the Norse (6-0). The Chanticleers' David Kralj hit a 3-pointer at 1:09 to cut the deficit to five, but Northern Kentucky made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute.
Troy rallies late to beat Coastal Carolina 66-65
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Jordon Varnado hit a jumper and Kevin Barker split a pair of free throws to complete a late Troy rally to slip past Coastal Carolina 66-65 on Thursday night.
The win kept Troy's February record perfect as the Trojans (13-13, 7-6 Sun Belt) have won four straight.
Coastal Carolina pulls away for 72-62 win over Little Rock
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Amidou Bamba scored a career-high 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting to lead Coastal Carolina to a 72-62 win over Little Rock on Saturday.
Jaylen Shaw added 13 points and Ajay Sanders had 11 for Coastal Carolina, which shot 50 percent from the field and got 18 assists on its 24 buckets. Shaw dished out eight of those helpers.
Coastal Carolina stages a comeback to beat Troy, 74-73
TROY, Ala. (AP) — Amidou Bamba tipped in a missed jumper by Jaylen Shaw to give Coastal Carolina a two-point lead with under two minutes left and the Chanticleers made it hold up for a 74-73 comeback win over Troy in a Sun Belt Conference battle Saturday.
Jordon Varnado cut the lead to one with the first of two free throws with 1:36 left, but missed a second to tie the game and the Trojans never got off a shot in the final minute.
Coastal Carolina stuns UT Arlington in Sun Belt opener
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Jaylen Shaw totaled 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Coastal Carolina stunned preseason favorite UT Arlington 90-65 on Friday night in a Sun Belt Conference opener.
Artur Labinowicz added 15 points for the Chanticleers (7-7), while reserves Amidou Bamba, Demario Beck and Christian Adams combined to score 37 as the Coastal Carolina bench outscored its counterparts 45-13.
Coastal Carolina routs NAIA St. Andrews 70-34
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Demario Beck had 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead Coastal Carolina in a 70-34 rout of NAIA St. Andrews on Wednesday.
Jaylen Shaw added 12 points for Coastal Carolina (4-2). Shaw scored his 1,000 career point on a free throw with 8:30 remaining in the first half.
Amidou Bamba had 10 points and Josh Coleman chipped in seven points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the Chanticleers.
Jean Ahoume and Devonte Pettaway scored six points apiece for St. Andrews.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Elijah Wilson made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead Coastal Carolina to an 80-67 victory over South Alabama on Wednesday in the Chanticleers' first appearance in the Sun Belt Tournament.

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Elijah Wilson had 18 points and six rebounds as Coastal Carolina picked up its first win, defeating Coppin State 89-59 on Wednesday night.
Wilson was 4 of 9 from the field — all from distance — for the Chanticleers (1-2). Jaylen Shaw and Joseph Williams-Powell added 13 points apiece, Demario Beck had 12 points and Amidou Bamba had 11 points and led the team with 13 rebounds. The team averaged 46 percent shooting from the field.
