ZHUHAI, China (AP) — Garbine Muguruza saved three match points before beating Anastasija Sevastova 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (1) and advancing to the semifinals of the WTA Elite Trophy on Friday.
The Spaniard, a two-time Grand Slam champion, also saved eight of 12 break points against her second-seeded opponent.

MOSCOW (AP) — Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur became the first player from her country to reach a WTA tennis final on Friday, and she will next face Daria Kasatkina for the Kremlin Cup title.
Jabeur, the 2011 junior champion at the French Open, beat 11th-ranked Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.

MOSCOW (AP) — Anastasija Sevastova reached the Kremlin Cup semifinals by beating Russian veteran Vera Zvonareva 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday.
The Latvian player said she was lucky not to lose the match after Zvonareva — once ranked second in the world but in her first tour quarterfinal since 2012 — broke her serve to level the second set at 5-5.
Wozniacki wins 2nd China Open title, Del Potro stumbles
BEIJING (AP) — Caroline Wozniacki defeated Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 6-3 to win the China Open and her third WTA title of the year on Sunday, while Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia beat top-seeded Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-4 in the men's final.
The victory was Wozniacki's second title in Beijing.
The unseeded Sevastova downed U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka in the semifinal, but couldn't handle the second-seeded Dane's punishing groundstrokes.

The 20th-ranked Latvian will face the winner of the semifinal between China's Wang Qiang and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.
The 20-year-old Osaka required a medical break in the second set for what appeared to be lower back pain.

Sloane Stephens reaches Rogers Cup semifinals
MONTREAL (AP) — U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens romped into the Rogers Cup semifinals Friday, beating Anastasija Sevastova 6-2, 6-2.
The 25-year-old Stephens, ranked No. 3 in the world, won a hard-court title in Miami in March and lost the French Open final to top-ranked Simona Halep. In the semifinals, the American will face fifth-seeded defending champion Elina Svitolina.
Svitolina beat 14th-seeded Elise Mertens 7-5, 6-3 in the late match.
BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Top-seeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia returned to the Bucharest Open final after semifinal opponent Polona Hercog retired hurt after their first set on Saturday.
Sevastova won the set 6-1, and the eighth-seeded Hercog, of Slovenia, retired. Hercog started the match with her right thigh heavily strapped.
Sevastova also reached the Bucharest final in 2016, only to lose to local star Simona Halep on the clay.

The 37-year-old American was coming off a straight-set victory over younger sister Serena a night earlier, ending a three-match skid against her sibling.

The run of defeats left seventh-seeded Julia Goerges, the world No. 27, as the highest-ranked player remaining.
Top-seeded Mladenovic landed only 49 percent of her first serves and was beaten 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 by Aliaksandra Sasnovich, while No. 2 seed Vandeweghe lost 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 to Lesia Tsurenko.

WUHAN, China (AP) — Katerina Siniakova beat a top-20 player for the sixth time this year when she ousted Kristina Mladenovic of France 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the Wuhan Open on Sunday.
The Czech, who has two singles titles already this year, deepened the hole occupied by Mladenovic. It was her eighth straight loss, all to players ranked outside the WTA top 25.
