Syracuse place-kicker Andre Szmyt wins Vlade Award
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse place-kicker Andre Szmyt has won the Vlade Award, given annually to college football's most accurate kicker.
Szmyt, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound redshirt freshman, leads the FBS in field goals made (28), field goals attempted (32), field goals per game (2.33), and points per game (11.8) and ranks second in the nation in scoring with a school-record 141 points.
ACC honors 11 players from No. 18 Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Freshman safety Andre Cisco, redshirt junior punter Sterling Hofrichter and redshirt freshman kicker Andre Szmyt are among 11 players for No. 18 Syracuse honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
No. 19 Syracuse gets major kick out of Andre Szmyt
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Four years ago, Syracuse place-kicker Andre Szmyt was playing soccer at his high school in the northern Chicago suburbs, not even on the radar of the school's football coach. Now, he's a star for the 19th-ranked Orange.
Dungey, No. 22 Syracuse beat Wake Forest 41-24
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Eric Dungey rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown, Jarveon Howard ran for two scores and No. 22 Syracuse beat Wake Forest 41-24 on Saturday.
Dungey — whose average of 294.1 total yards per game ranks second in the ACC — was 23 of 35 for 157 yards and also ran for a 26-yard score to help the Orange (7-2, 4-2, No. 19 CFP) win their first game as a Top 25 team since the Dwight Freeney days in 2001.
Syracuse special teams thrive with punter, walk-on kicker
One thing is certain about Syracuse coach Dino Babers — he's getting a kick out of watching his special teams perform.
From punter Sterling Hofrichter to walk-on place-kicker Andre Szmyt to return man Sean Riley, it's hard to find much wrong so far this season for a team that's 4-1, the lone loss a four-point setback at unbeaten powerhouse Clemson on Saturday.
