Kvitova beats Barty in Sydney International women’s final
SYDNEY (AP) — Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova beat Ashleigh Barty 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) in the women's singles final on Saturday at the Sydney International.
Barty led the deciding set 3-0 before Kvitova began a comeback to win her 26th WTA title.
Barty beat No. 1 Simona Halep, No.9 Kiki Bertens and No.12 Elise Mertens on her way to the final.
Kvitova apologized to Barty and the crowd for spoiling the Australian's Sydney party.
Ashleigh Barty into Sydney International singles final
SYDNEY (AP) — Ashleigh Barty continued her strong run at the Sydney International with a semifinal win over Kiki Bertens, beating the Dutch player 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5 Friday.
Barty withstood 15 aces from Bertens in the 2-hour, 18-minute match to advance to her second consecutive final in Sydney.
She will play two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who beat Serbian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-1, 6-2.
Sasnovich, Barty through to Sydney International semifinals
SYDNEY (AP) — Aliaksandra Sasnovich advanced to the Sydney International semifinals by beating Timea Bacsinszky 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday.
The 33rd-ranked Sasnovich reached the quarterfinals last week in Brisbane.
Sasnovich will next face two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who beat 2016 Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-1 in a match twice suspended by rain.
Konta beats Mertens at Kremlin Cup
MOSCOW (AP) — Johanna Konta of Britain upset seventh-seeded Belgian Elise Mertens in the first round of the Kremlin Cup on Tuesday.
Making up a 30-place rankings gap to the 14th-ranked Mertens, Konta took full advantage of Mertens' wayward serving to win 6-3, 7-5.
MARRAKECH, Morocco (AP) — Russian qualifier Alexey Vatutin beat top-seeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 (4), 6-2 Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix Hassan II.
Vatutin is playing in his first ATP World Tour event and next faces two-time champion Pablo Andujar in the last eight.

GENOA, Italy (AP) — Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut beat Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 for France to lead Italy 2-1 in the Davis Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.
Herbert's and Mahut's constant net rushing proved too much to handle for the Italian pair, which fell apart late in the opening set.
Fognini missed an easy overhead smash and Bolelli served consecutive double faults when Herbert and Mahut broke to take the first set.
GENOA, Italy (AP) — Inspired by playing in his home region, Fabio Fognini came back from a set down to defeat Jeremy Chardy 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 and draw Italy level with France in the Davis Cup quarterfinals Friday.
The 20th-ranked Fognini had his left leg taped up early in the second set but didn't appear too bothered over the course of a match that lasted 3 hours, 31 minutes on a slow outdoor red clay court.
GENOA, Italy (AP) — Without the injured Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lucas Pouille will face Andreas Seppi to open France's visit to Italy in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
The 11th-ranked Pouille has a 4-3 record in the Davis Cup and won the decisive match over Belgium's Steve Darcis in last season's final.
It will be the first meeting between Pouille and Seppi.
Federer sets up Rotterdam final against Dimitrov

Even though the U.S. Tennis Association tried to lessen the noise in Arthur Ashe Stadium after the retractable cover's debut during last year's tournament, there was still quite a bit of ambient sound when the top was shut because of rain Tuesday.

MUNICH (AP) — Defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber began his bid for a fourth BMW Open title with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Norwegian wild card Casper Ruud on Tuesday.
Kohlschreiber saved two of the three break points he faced from the 18-year-old Ruud to set up a second-round meeting with Horacio Zeballos of Argentina.
Zeballos beat Andreas Seppi of Italy 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. Zeballos had previously reached the semifinals in Barcelona, where his tournament run was brought to a halt by Rafael Nadal.

MONTE CARLO, Monaco (AP) — Tomas Berdych needed two hours and three sets to overcome strong resistance from Russian qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov and reach the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Monday.
Berdych, a runner-up at the Country Club two years ago, converted only two of his 11 break points and rallied Kuznetsov 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Berdych made the decisive break in the third game of the decider with a backhand winner down the line.
CHARLEROI, Belgium (AP) — Italy staved off losing to Belgium in the Davis Cup quarterfinals by winning the doubles on Saturday.
Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi defeated Ruben Bemelmans and Jons De Loore 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6) in nearly four hours.
Belgium won both singles on Friday, and can clinch the tie on Sunday in the first reverse singles, when David Goffin plays Paolo Lorenzi. Goffin won their only previous match in 2014.
Darcis faces Lorenzi in opening singles in Davis Cup
