Qualifier De Schepper upsets Paire at Croatia Open
UMAG, Croatia (AP) — Qualifier Kenny De Schepper upset another Frenchman, seventh-seeded Benoit Paire, to advance to the second round of the Croatia Open on Tuesday with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win.
Paire struggled with his serve, producing a total of 11 double faults, and was broken eight times by his 148th-ranked opponent.
Eighth-seeded Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic made the second round after a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Norbert Gombos of Slovakia.
Bellucci into the quarterfinals on clay in Quito
QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Fourth-seeded Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil reached the quarterfinals of the Ecuador Open on Wednesday, defeating Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2).
In another second-round match in the clay-court tournament, No. 8 Renzo Olivo of Argentina had a 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3 win over Santiago Giraldo of Colombia.
In the first round, Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic beat Andrej Martin of Slovakia 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and will next play No. 1-seeded Ivo Karlovic of Croatia.
Davis Cup: Australia wins World Group playoff over Slovakia
SYDNEY (AP) — Doubles pair Sam Groth and John Peers beat Slovakia's Andrej Martin and Igor Zelenay 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (2) on Saturday to clinch Australia's Davis Cup World Group playoff 3-0.
Slovakia saved a match point in the 12th game of the third set before winning the tiebreaker. But Australia dominated the fourth-set tiebreaker, winning the first five points.

SYDNEY (AP) — Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic had straight-set singles victories over their Slovakian opponents Friday to give Australia a 2-0 lead in their Davis Cup World Group playoff.
Kyrgios, Australia's No. 1 player, opened with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrej Martin. Tomic beat Jozef Kovalik 7-6 (5) 6-4, 6-4.
Sam Groth and John Peers will try to clinch the tie for Australia on Saturday when they play the Slovakian doubles team of Martin and Igor Zelenay.
