BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Jeff Skinner scored 3:06 into overtime after getting the tying goal late in regulation, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Friday for their eighth straight victory.
Buffalo's win streak is the longest in the NHL and the team's best stretch since winning 10 in a row to start the 2006-07 season. Casey Mittelstadt also scored for the Sabres, and Carter Hutton made 31 saves.

Jonathan Drouin scored a power-play goal with less than three minutes remaining to lead the Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
Drouin scored just seconds after Vancouver defenseman Michael Del Zotto was whistled for interference.

MONTREAL (AP) — Max Pacioretty and the Montreal Canadiens are picking up speed after a slow start.
Pacioretty scored at 3:08 of overtime to give Montreal a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. Pacioretty broke in alone and beat Chad Johnson with a backhand shot.
Andrew Shaw also scored for Montreal, and Charlie Lindgren made 34 saves to improve to 4-1-0. The Canadiens have won four of five to improve to 8-9-1.

MONTREAL (AP) — Paul Byron scored twice and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Florida Panthers 3-1 on Friday night after losing their first six preseason games.

Alexei Emelin, Max Pacioretty and Paul Byron scored in rapid succession and the Canadiens rebounded after a disputed goal against and the ejection of wing Andrew Shaw for a 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
"It was fun. It felt like a playoff game," Pacioretty said. "It felt like there were a lot of Rangers fans here."

Brock Nelson and Nick Leddy scored for the Islanders but the Panthers tied the game late and went on to win in overtime, 3-2, at Sunrise, Fla.
Jonathan Marchessault tied the game with 13.6 seconds left in regulation and Denis Malgin scored late in overtime. Florida trailed 2-0 in the third period before getting goals from Kyle Rau and Marchessault.

The victory was Montreal's 10th at the Bell Centre this season, a club record for consecutive home wins to start a season. The previous record was established in 1953.

Canadiens’ Shaw suspended 3 preseason games for boarding
NEW YORK (AP) — Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw has been suspended three preseason games for boarding Washington Capitals prospect Connor Hobbs.
Shaw hit Hobbs into the glass from behind Tuesday during his first preseason game with the Canadiens and was given a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct.
As a result of not being suspended for any regular-season games, Shaw will not lose any pay as part of the suspension.
