BRIDGEPORT — When Seth Helgeson left the only NHL organization he’d known to sign with the New York Islanders last summer, he knew he was stepping into an on-ice role like the one he’d had for four-plus seasons with the Devils, both in New Jersey and Albany.

SUNRISE, Fla. – Of course the Devils won’t use the same six defensemen for all 82 games.
But, to infer from what coach John Hynes is saying, that first change may come soon.
The Devils face the Panthers on Thursday night to start a three-game road trip that also includes a game at Tampa Bay on Saturday and at Carolina on Sunday.
Rookie defenseman Vojtech Mozik was recalled from Albany (AHL) on Tuesday to allow the Devils to travel with seven defensemen.
TAMPA, Fla. – The Devils wanted to play harder and they did.
They needed to get more out of their top-six forwards and they did.
The next step now in the on-going search for their first win of the nascent season is maintaining that type of performance for a full 60 minutes.
“We had more of how we wanted to play, competitively on the puck, territorially,” coach John Hynes said. “But when we play excellent teams, or any team in this league, it’s got to be pretty consistent for 60 minutes.”
