Van Vliet, a 7-foot forward from Belgium, announced last month that he was leaving the Badgers after three seasons with the program. He averaged 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 31 career games at UW.
Andy Van Vliet has decided to leave the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball program with a season of eligibility remaining.
The 7-foot junior forward from Belgium announced his decision Tuesday on Twitter, saying he met with the coaching staff last week and wants “to pursue my academic and athletic goals at another Division I school.”

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Reserve forward Andy Van Vliet plans to transfer from Wisconsin after three years with the program.
Coach Greg Gard says the 7-foot jump-shooter was granted his release to explore a transfer on Tuesday.
Van Vliet appeared in 31 games over two seasons, averaging 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 2017-18. He had career highs of 18 points and eight rebounds in the season opener against South Carolina State.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Khalil Iverson, held scoreless in Wisconsin's season debut two days earlier, led the Badgers with 17 points Sunday as they cruised to an 89-61 win over Yale.
As with their season opener, the Badgers had four players in double figures, and Wisconsin (2-0) overpowered Yale (0-2) from the start.
The Bulldogs were again without senior captain Makai Mason, who missed all of last year and has yet to get in a game this season, and 6-foot, 9-inch Jordan Brunch.

Four months later, the junior forward is upbeat and optimistic about his future with the Badgers. Van Vliet is eager to continue his pursuit of a starting spot when UW officially begins practice for the 2017-18 season on Friday.

The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team put on a 3-point shooting clinic Thursday during the second game of its international tour.
Junior forward Andy Van Vliet scored 14 points as the Badgers rolled to an 87-53 victory over the New Zealand Breakers in Tauranga, New Zealand.
UW went 15 of 27 from 3-point range (55.6 percent) and shot 49.3 percent overall to beat the Breakers for the second time in three days.
