‘An Elephant Sitting Still’ wins top prize at Golden Horse
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — "An Elephant Sitting Still" won the top prize Saturday night at the Golden Horse Awards, the Chinese-language version of the Oscars.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Irrfan Khan is a Bollywood star and Hollywood chameleon, who has bounced between the two with ease for decades, working with everyone from Mira Nair to Wes Anderson and Ang Lee and stealing scenes in both Oscar-winners ("Slumdog Millionaire") and blockbusters ("Jurassic World") alike. But all that's been put on hold as he undergoes treatment in London for a neuroendocrine tumor, a rare form of cancer.
Will Smith's 'Gemini Man' will be released on October 4, 2019.
The upcoming action thriller will see Will play an ageing assassin who ends up getting involved in a fierce battle with his clone, who is 25 years younger than him with sharper skills.
Ang Lee is directing the Paramount movie, which has been in the pipeline since 1997.

The $180 million production benefited from lingering Harry Potter goodwill, but failed to reach the heights of those films in its first weekend.
Movie review: ‘Billy Lynn’ shows war from a soldier’s perspective
Everyone has an opinion about every war. Everything that happens in a war is greeted by people as supporting whatever point of view they already have.
And pro-war or anti-war, people always think they “support the troops.” Yet in truth, the only ones who really know what a war is like are the people who actually fight it.
LOVING: The latest from director Jeff Nichols ("Midnight Special," "Take Shelter") centers on an interracial couple (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga) who spent nine years in court fighting for the right to live together in their hometown. (PG-13)
Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk: Ang Lee’s film starring Joe Alwyn, as the title character, a 19-year-old Iraq veteran whose heroism makes him a returning hero but who finds the attention disorienting, had its wide release pushed back a week. It’s getting mixed reviews in limited release.
Review: ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ is a mesmeric trip
"Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk " is not a war movie in the traditional sense. There are battle scenes, and brothers in arms banter, sure, but like its pioneering technology, on a pure story level "Billy Lynn's" also pushes the boundaries of what we can expect from this genre.
Ang Lee believes new film technology is worth trying again
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Ang Lee believes the new technology that made for hyper-realistic action in "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" is worth trying again.
So much so the two-time Oscar-winning director will use the faster frames-per-second format in his next project, the boxing movie "Thrilla in Manila."

With 3 NYFF films, Kristen Stewart admits she’s a workaholic
NEW YORK (AP) — Three films in this year's New York Film Festival certainly qualify Kristen Stewart as a workaholic, but the actress doesn't think that's such a bad thing.
"Oh yeah, I'm totally addicted, man... I get super obsessed with stuff, you know, and which is to a fault. But it's served me well," said Stewart.
Ang Lee’s ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ to debut at NYFF
NEW YORK (AP) — Ang Lee's 3-D, high-frame rate drama "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" will premiere at the New York Film Festival.
Lincoln Center's Film Society announced the selection Monday, giving a festival landing spot to one of the fall's most distinct releases. Lee also premiered his previous film, the 3-D "Life of Pi," at the New York Film Festival in 2012.
It’s very difficult to bring a great work of literature to the screen, especially in today’s film landscape, which has made it harder and harder to find funding for character-driven movies. Converting great prose to imagery and dialogue is daunting, and if it doesn’t live up to its source material, devotees of the written word will not be pleased.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — In "Sex and the City," Sarah Jessica Parker's wardrobe was all about the look and the label. In "Divorce," her new HBO comedy series, it's more about emotion.
Parker, back on HBO a decade after starring as the single Carrie on "Sex and the City," plays a wife and mother who decides to end her marriage. She stars opposite Thomas Haden Church.

NEW YORK (AP) — F. Scott Fitzgerald estimated that less than six people had ever fully grasped "the whole equation" of the movie business. James Schamus would have made it half a dozen.
Schamus is, somehow, equal parts film executive (he ran Focus Features for 12 years), academic (he's taught film theory at Columbia for more than 20 years) and filmmaker (he's Ang Lee's near-constant collaborator and screenwriter). Now, at 56, he's adding first-time director to his...
