Angela Bassett wanted her children to be part of 'Black Panther' so they could see what an important movie the cast were making.
The 59-year-old actress plays Ramonda - the mother of titular hero T'Challa and Queen Mother of fictional African nation Wakanda - in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, which has been praised for having a virtually all-black cast and positive messages.
The women of ‘Black Panther’ take center stage
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Scientist. Warrior. Queen Mother. Spy. These are just a few of the job titles of the women of "Black Panther," now playing nationwide.
None of them are fighting over a guy, or needing one to save them. They are fierce, proud, intelligent and capable. And, in the case of Danai Gurira's character Okoye and her fellow Dora Milaje fighters: Bald and rocking a bold lip while protecting the nation of Wakanda at the highest level.
The team of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk has created a lot of provocative television - "American Horror Story," "Nip/Tuck" and "Scream Queens," just to name a few.
So when I heard the duo was taking on the world of first responders in the new FOX drama "9-1-1," I was sure the show would be a doozy. Imagine my surprise when I found "9-1-1" to be just another run-of-the-mill procedural with an incredible cast that deserves better.
