HOBART, Australia (AP) — American Sofia Kenin won her first WTA title at the Hobart International on Saturday after beating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-4, 6-0.
Playing her first top-level singles final, the 20-year-old Kenin took the first set with a break before running away with the match in 71 minutes.
Kenin, ranked 56th, didn't drop a set for the tournament and beat top-seeded Caroline Garcia and former Hobart champion Alize Cornet in her run to the title.

HOBART, Australia (AP) — Former Hobart International champion Alize Cornet moved a step closer to another title in Tasmania with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen in the quarterfinals Thursday.
The sixth-seeded Cornet, who won the event in 2016 and hasn't dropped a set this year, overcame a fall and skinned knee to reach the semifinals.
Cornet served for the match at 5-2 in the second set but was broken as Minnen hit some clean winners.
HOBART, Australia (AP) — Belinda Bencic eased into the quarterfinals at the WTA Tour's Hobart International, beating Australian wild card Zoe Hives 6-2, 6-4.
Hives pulled off an upset when she beat Johanna Larsson to reach the second round but couldn't repeat that form against a polished Bencic, who set up a quarterfinal against 18-year-old Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — The Tashkent Open semifinals will feature four unseeded players.
Mona Barthel knocked out the final seeded player in the draw, No. 2 Vera Lapko, 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday. The German will next face Margarita Gasparyan, who beat Fanny Stollar 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Also, Kateryna Kozlova defeated sixth-seeded Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-3, 6-2, while qualifier Anastasia Potapova beat Dalila Jakupovic 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — Vera Lapko reached the quarterfinals of the Tashkent Open on Wednesday by beating qualifier Ivana Jorovic 6-2, 6-4.
The 19-year-old Lapko, the highest-ranked player left in the draw at 64th in the world, will next face German player Mona Barthel.
Russian veteran Vera Zvonareva, once ranked second in the world, lost to Hungarian qualifier Fanny Stollar 7-6 (2), 6-4.
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — Eugenie Bouchard was eliminated in the first round of the Tashkent Open on Monday, continuing another difficult season for the former Wimbledon finalist.
Bouchard lost to 2015 Tashkent champion Nao Hibino 6-3, 6-3 despite being a break up early in the second set.
Hibino will next face Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, who beat Dejana Radanovic 6-3, 6-0.

TOKYO (AP) — Top-seeded Shuai Zhang beat Zariya Dinas 6-4, 7-5 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Japan Women's Open.
Zhang relied on a dominant first serve to set up a semifinal clash with American qualifier Amanda Anisimova, who beat Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-3, 6-1.
Fourth-seeded Wang Qiang beat Magda Linette 6-2, 6-2 and will face either Ajla Tomljanovic or Hsieh Su-Wei.
After losing the opening two games, Wang powered through to take the next eight in succession.
