Outfielder-turned-Astros-pitcher Anthony Gose will keep you guessing
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - No one in baseball seems to know who or what Anthony Gose truly is.
He was an outfielder. He could be a pitcher. At Astros spring training, he is a mystery.
Gose, 27, hit so inconsistently during five seasons in the majors and nearly a decade in professional baseball that he switched to pitching last season in the minors. He had not taken the mound in a competitive game since high school.
Astros draft former MLB outfielder Gose, hoping he can pitch
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — The Houston Astros have added former big league outfielder Anthony Gose, hoping he can develop as a left-handed pitcher.
The World Series champions took Gose from the Texas Rangers' minor league system Thursday in the annual winter meeting draft of players left off 40-man rosters.
Now 27, Gose began pitching last season in the minors for Detroit. He was 0-2 with a 7.59 ERA in 11 relief appearances in the Class A Florida State League, striking out 14 in 10 2/3 innings.

Tigers say goodbye to Anthony Gose, Steven Moya
Detroit — Dave Dombrowski didn't make a lot of bad trades when he was the Tigers' president and general manager. You can probably count the stinkers on one hand. But one that stands out was the Devon Travis-for-Anthony Gose swap with the Toronto Blue Jays.
That deal officially has been shifted to the Tigers' "trash" category, now that Gose has left the organization and signed as a minor-league free agent with the Texas Rangers.
Tigers release Lowe, send Jimenez to minor league camp
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have released right-handed reliever Mark Lowe, one of several cuts before Sunday's spring training game against Toronto.
Detroit also optioned catcher John Hicks to Triple-A Toledo, and the Tigers reassigned right-handers Joe Jimenez, Ruben Alaniz, Logan Kensing, Arcenio Leon and Edward Mujica, infielder Dominic Ficociello and outfielders Anthony Gose and Juan Perez to minor league camp.
Tigers’ center field position is up for grabs
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Open competition for a starting position has become a rarity in spring training. Yet that is what the Detroit Tigers have in center field as they prepare for this weekend's start of the exhibition season.
"The guys involved know it's open, and it's a performance-based game," manager Brad Ausmus said. "I don't love judging people in spring training, but in this case we're going to have to use it a little bit."

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers demoted outfielder Anthony Gose to Double-A Erie on Wednesday after he was in an altercation with Triple-A manager Lloyd McClendon during a game over the weekend.
The Tigers announced that the 25-year-old Gose had his option transferred from Triple-A Toledo to Erie. They also said he'd been on the suspended list from Sunday until Wednesday. Toledo has been off from Monday through Wednesday for its All-Star break.
Jones, Gose disciplined by Mud Hens manager
Toronto — A pair of Tigers outfielders, one a prized prospect, and another a well-known but disappointing presence in Detroit the past two seasons, were disciplined Saturday in separate incidents with Triple A Toledo manager Lloyd McClendon.
JaCoby Jones, who had a hot start on the Tigers farm following a long suspension that ended in May, was benched Saturday after not running with sufficient hustle after he hit a pop-up in the Mud Hens' game against Louisville at Fifth...
