NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — FIU fumbled away the opening kickoff, gave up a touchdown 23 seconds into the game and found itself trailing by double digits by the end of the first quarter.
They needed a comeback.
And Anthony Jones might know more about comebacks than anyone on the FIU roster.

MIAMI (AP) — The scar snakes down the right side of Anthony Jones' neck, serving as a constant reminder of something the FIU running back doesn't exactly remember nor will he ever forget.
Had the bullet gone an inch or two in a different direction, he could have died.
Instead, he's about to go play for FIU in the Bahamas Bowl next week.

Police: 2 FIU football players shot, assailant at large
MIAMI (AP) — Two FIU football players were shot Thursday afternoon, and police said they were looking for who was responsible for what they called a drive-by attack.
Opa-locka (Florida) police chief James Dobson identified the players as running back Anthony Jones and offensive lineman Mershawn Miller. Jones was shot in the face and back, while Miller was shot in the arm. Both players were taken to Ryder Trauma Center, Jones getting airlifted there and Miller taken by ambulance.
McGough throws for 3 TDs, FIU runs past UTEP 35-21
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Alex McGough threw for three touchdowns and Alex Gardner ran for another as Florida International picked up its second straight win, running past UTEP 35-21 on Saturday night.
McGough threw for 241 yards, Gardner rushed for 141, and Anthony Jones ran for 117 yards as the Golden Panthers (2-4, 2-0 Conference USA) amassed 488 yards while limiting UTEP (1-5, 0-3) to 276 total yards.
McGough rallies FIU to 33-31 win over FAU
MIAMI (AP) — Alex McGough ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, Austin Taylor kicked the go-ahead field goal and Florida International beat Florida Atlantic 33-31 on Saturday in a game that featured five lead changes.
FAU (1-4, 0-1 Conference USA) led 24-14 after Azeez Al-Shaair intercepted McGough's pass on the first play of the second half and returned it 30 yards for a score.
