Towns, Teague help Wolves recover in 120-103 win over Magic
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Through 17 minutes, the Minnesota Timberwolves watched the Orlando Magic shoot 76.4 percent and open a 19-point lead. Returning home after a trip was looking like another letdown for Minnesota.
Then the Timberwolves started playing team defense.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 29 points and 15 rebounds, and Jeff Teague added 23 points and 10 assists in his return to the Minnesota lineup in the Timberwolves' 120-103 comeback victory Friday night.
Butler leads T-wolves with 33 points in 131-123 win vs. Cavs
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jimmy Butler's trade request last month instantly turned him from fan favorite to scorned superstar in Minnesota.
With some hustle steals and highlight-reel baskets, he quickly had the crowd at the home opener on his side.
Butler brushed off some early jeers, scoring 33 points in 36 minutes to lead the Timberwolves past the Cleveland Cavaliers 131-123 on Friday night.
Forward Anthony Tolliver rejoins Timberwolves
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed forward Anthony Tolliver to a one-year, $5.75 million contract.
The team announced the signing Monday without releasing details. The Associated Press reported the terms last week.
The 6-foot-8 Tolliver spent two seasons in Minnesota, from 2010 to 2012, averaging 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds. He has played for nine different franchises and spent last season with Detroit, where he averaged 8.9 points a game.
Chicago — It's not the finish to the season that they wanted, but the Pistons still wrapped up the season the way they started it, with a win.
The 80 games in between didn't quite go so well, as the Pistons missed the playoffs for the second straight season. They'll start the long offseason with more questions than answers about their longterm future, but reveled in one last victory for the season.
CHICAGO (AP) — Eric Moreland got the most playing time of his career — and he delivered with peak production.
The center, starting in place of the injured Andre Drummond and without Blake Griffin in the front court, helped the Detroit Pistons end a disappointing season on a high note with a 119-87 rout of the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
Detroit — Even though the chase for the playoffs is over, the Pistons are still playing for something. There's a chance to get to .500 this season, if they win the rest of their games remaining in the regular season.
It's a goal coach Stan Van Gundy and the players acknowledged in practice in the past couple days — and it's showing on the court.
NEW YORK (AP) — With one All-Star out injured and another banished to the locker room, the Detroit Pistons pulled it together to preserve their slim playoff hopes for at least another day.
Reggie Jackson scored 29 points, Stanley Johnson had 17 and the Pistons beat the Brooklyn Nets 108-96 on Sunday night.
New York — Stanley Johnson dribbled across midcourt and lofted a soft pass for Henry Ellenson, who was streaking down the middle of the court. The big man hauled in the pass, still in stride and powered down a two-handed dunk in the first quarter of Thursday's win over the Washington Wizards.
New York — Even if it is too little and too late, the Pistons are having a good run toward the end of the season. After winning three straight at home, they looked to extend their streak on the road for the first of a back-to-back in New York.
Make it another one.
The Pistons kept rolling, holding off a fourth-quarter surge from the New York Knicks and taking a 115-109 victory on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.
Detroit — The season and the Pistons' playoff hopes look to be hanging by a thin thread. After a lackluster beginning to the month, they've been stitching together some wins and making the last few weeks of the regular season interesting.
At least for now.
Even without Blake Griffin, who was a late scratch because of a bruised right ankle, the Pistons played tough and kept their slim playoff hopes alive.
Jackson leads Pistons past Lakers 112-106
DETROIT (AP) — Reggie Jackson is rounding into form for the Detroit Pistons.
Monday night was a positive sign.
Jackson had 20 points in his fourth game back from an ankle sprain, helping the Pistons to a 112-106 victory over Julius Randle and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Detroit (34-40) won for the fourth time in five games, but trails idle Miami by five games for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Pistons sharp from outside in 117-95 win over Chicago
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Pistons are close to full strength now, and their performance of late reflects it.
Detroit — If the Pistons are to have success with their present roster, either this season or next, they'll need many more games like Saturday's against the Chicago Bulls.
The Pistons (33-40) rode hot shooting, going 16-of-42 on 3-point attempts, to bury the Bulls, 117-95, at Little Caesars Arena.
Detroit was led by forward Anthony Tolliver, who had 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. He also had six rebounds.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — After nearly two months, Blake Griffin finally looks comfortable playing with Detroit, and it's showing up across the board.
He's even got the Pistons winning on the road again, something that hadn't happened since the five-time All-Star arrived in late January after being traded from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Griffin had 26 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and Detroit pulled away in the third quarter to beat the Sacramento Kings 106-90 on Monday night.
Detroit — The Pistons bench has been roundly criticized as the team's weak spot all season.
But on Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena, the bench was the driving force in ending a three-game losing streak as the Pistons ran roughshod over the Bucks, 110-87, ending a three-game skid.
Stanley Johnson scored 19 to lead a bench attack that put up 63 points and gave the starters the jolt they needed to wake up on the defensive end and run away from Milwaukee.
Pistons stay unbeaten with Griffin, beat Blazers 111-91
DETROIT (AP) — Andre Drummond had 17 points and 17 rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons beat the Portland Trail Blazers 111-91 on Monday night for their fourth straight victory.
Detroit has won three in a row with Blake Griffin in the lineup after acquiring him in a trade last week. The victory Monday pulled the Pistons back to .500 and even with Philadelphia for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto — Pistons general manager Jeff Bower sat in the stands at Air Canada Centre during Wednesday morning's shootaround, using his phone.
There's no time for Words With Friends; he was doing some online shopping — perusing possible deals and making and taking calls about other roster possibilities.

Detroit — The Christmas season is over, but the Detroit Pistons players are still bestowing gifts.
Led by forward Anthony Tolliver, the Pistons raised a $230,000 donation to UNICEF for hurricane relief efforts in Houston, Florida and Puerto Rico. Pistons owner Tom Gores, coach Stan Van Gundy and the NBA Players Association all backed the project and were to present the check at halftime of the Pistons-Rockets game Saturday night.
Celtics’ Irving out for Bulls game because of bruised quad
CHICAGO (AP) — Boston Celtics star guard Kyrie Irving sat out Monday night's game against the Chicago Bulls because of a bruised left quadriceps.
Acquired for Isaiah Thomas in a huge offseason trade with Cleveland, Irving is averaging a team-leading 23.7 points. The four-time All-Star took a knee to the quad in Sunday's win at Detroit and finished with 16 points on just 4-for-12 shooting.
Milwaukee — During their five-game winning streak, the Pistons have been able to hold things together, even without two of their main rotation pieces. Stanley Johnson (back) missed three games and Jon Leuer (sprained left ankle) five games, but finally are ready to return.
Washington, D.C. — Pistons forward Henry Ellenson arrived at his locker, almost surprised that he had a small crowd of reporters waiting for him after a postgame shower.
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Pistons have signed free agent Anthony Tolliver and have re-signed Reggie Bullock.
Terms of the deals weren't disclosed.
Tolliver, 32, played in 65 games and made nine starts for the Sacramento Kings last season. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 22.7 minutes. He also shot 39.1 percent from 3-point range.

NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Paul has been re-elected president of the National Basketball Players Association.
Paul's new four-year term begins immediately. He will be assisted by the union's newly elected vice president, Garrett Temple of the Sacramento Kings.
In his first term as president, Paul most notably helped the players and the NBA come together on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement that goes into effect on July 1.
The Sacramento Kings have waived former Creighton Bluejay Anthony Tolliver, according to the Omaha World Herald.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — After squandering several big leads in the past week, the Sacramento Kings were pleased to finally play well down the stretch.
Darren Collison had 19 points and 13 assists, reserve Anthony Tolliver also scored 19 points and the Kings beat the Orlando Magic 120-115 on Monday night to snap an eight-game losing streak.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — DeMarcus Cousins had 35 points and 18 rebounds, and the Sacramento Kings handed the Charlotte Hornets their fourth straight loss, 109-106 on Saturday night.
Cousins’ 32 lead Kings back against Timberwolves, 109-105
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — In their first year under coach Dave Joerger, the Sacramento Kings are beginning to discover how they want to play, and the fourth quarter is quickly becoming theirs.
DeMarcus Cousins scored 32 points, including 21 in the second half, and Sacramento came back to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-105 on Friday night for its third straight victory.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Sacramento Kings have announced the signings of free agent guards Arron Afflalo and Garrett Temple and forwards Matt Barnes and Anthony Tolliver.
The deals were agreed to earlier in the week and officially signed on Saturday.

Temple is back for a second stint with the Kings after playing five games for Sacramento in...
