Unrecognizable Antonio Banderas bristles with intensity as Picasso
San Antonio-born filmmaker Robert Rodriguez helped make Antonio Banderas a star in the U.S. with action-packed revenge thriller “Desperado,” not to mention his wildly popular “Spy Kids” romps.
However, the Spanish actor’s latest role — Pablo Picasso, his fellow countryman and one of the 20th century’s most influential artists — just may be the most meaningful of his career.
Banderas’ hometown of Málaga, Spain, in fact, is also Picasso’s birthplace.

Antonio Banderas: ‘My heart attack wasn’t serious’
Antonio Banderas says he is fine after a heart attack in January.
The 56-year-old actor was rushed to St. Peter's Hospital in Surrey outside of London when he suffered chest pains while exercising earlier this year and although it was found to be a heart attack, Antonio insists it wasn't as serious as it sounds.
He said: "I suffered a heart attack on January 26 but it wasn't serious and hasn't caused any damaged."

The 56-year-old Banderas tells Spanish media that "I suffered a heart attack on Jan. 26, but it wasn't serious and hasn't caused any damage."
Banderas says he underwent a procedure to place three stents in his arteries, adding that "it hasn't been as dramatic as some have written."
MADRID (AP) — A spokeswoman for Antonio Banderas says the actor is in "perfectly good health" after undergoing medical examinations in a Swiss clinic in recent days.
The spokeswoman with Media Art Management in Spain denied reports Monday that the 56-year-old Spanish actor, known for "Zorro" and "Desperado," had been admitted to hospital at the Genolier clinic near Geneva. She declined to be identified.

PARIS (AP) — Cannes Film Festival organizers have announced that flamboyant Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar will be jury president at this year's festival as it celebrates its 70th anniversary.
Pierre Lescure and Thierry Fremaux said Tuesday that "Cannes is delighted to welcome a unique and hugely popular artist. His works have already carved out an eternal niche in the history of film."
