McDonald’s 23 pts sends N Kentucky past Youngstown St
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Drew McDonald scored 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds and Northern Kentucky beat Youngstown State 82-74 on Saturday.
The Norse (16-4, 6-1 Horizon League) entered the game in a first-place tie with Detroit Mercy in league play. NKU now has won eight of its last nine game and is off to its best start since 2011-12, the Norse's last year of Division II play.
Flowers leads Western Michigan past Youngstown St. 88-77
YOUNGSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Sophomore Michael Flowers scored a career-high 25 points and Western Michigan cruised to an 88-77 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday.
Hampton scores 32; Youngstown State beats Columbia 94-83
NEW YORK (AP) — Kendale Hampton scored a career-high 32 points to lead Youngstown State to a 94-83 victory over Columbia on Friday night in the Johnny Bach Classic.
Hampton was 10 of 17 from the floor, made seven 3-pointers and all five of his free-throw attempts. Garrett Covington added 16 points for the Penguins (2-2). Antwan Maxwell Jr. had 12 points and Devin Morgan chipped in 10.
Mike Smith scored 31 points on 12-of-23 shooting to lead Columbia (0-2). Quinton Adlesh added 12 points.
Charleston Southern beats Longwood behind Mitchell, Potter
FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — Cortez Mitchell scored 22 points and Charleston Southern beat Longwood 86-78 in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday.
The win gives Charleston Southern (11-18, 7-11) three out of its last four as it heads toward next week's Big South Tournament. Both Charleston Southern and Longwood finished in the bottom four in the standings and will therefore play first-round games.
