China orders Marriott to suspend website, app in map furor
BEIJING (AP) — Regulators have ordered the Marriott hotel chain to close its China-based website and app for one week after criticizing the company for referring to Tibet and self-ruled Taiwan as countries in a customer survey.
The Shanghai Cyberspace Authority said Friday that Marriott was ordered to "to conduct a comprehensive self-examination and rectification to completely clean up illegal content."
STAMFORD — Marriott International’s profits dropped by 67 percent in the quarter that it acquired Stamford-based Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, according to its latest earnings report released Monday.
The Bethesda, Md.-based firm’s profit totaled totaled $70 million in the third quarter, compared with $210 million during the same three-month period in 2015.
Marriott plans new $600M headquarters in Maryland
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Marriott International Inc. is planning a new $600 million headquarters in Maryland.
Marriott announced Tuesday that the new complex in Bethesda, a few miles from its current home, will have 700,000 square feet of office space for more than 3,500 employees. A Marriott-branded hotel will be built on the site with more than 200 rooms.
