CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Not this year, no way. Defending national champion Clemson had lost too much, the thinking went, on offense to post another serious threat to the title. But with the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season done, the Tigers are exactly where they want to be — on top of the ACC Atlantic and poised for another deep run.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson receiver Ray-Ray McCloud will be limited when the Tigers start practice as he recovers from an injured wrist.
McCloud needed a pin placed in his wrist this offseason. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said McCloud will be able to practice when the national champions return to the field for fall camp on Aug. 3. But Swinney said McCloud likely will not be full-go for a week or so as he continues to recover.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Kelly Bryant will start summer camp as Clemson's starting quarterback and will get the first shot at replacing the Tigers' All-American Deshaun Watson.
Bryant was listed as the starter on the Tigers summer depth chart released on Monday. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound junior has spent the past two seasons as a backup for Watson and Nick Schussler.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson's Deshaun Watson put on an impressive show for NFL teams, making the case at the Tigers' pro day that he should be the first quarterback taken in next month's draft.
Watson went through a crisp workout for scouts and evaluators for all 32 teams, including three head coaches: Tennessee's Mike Mularky, Chicago's John Fox and Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney walked into offseason drills last month and spun his head around.
"I was looking for Deshaun (Watson) and I couldn't find him," Swinney quipped Wednesday.
It will be a year of adjustments and change for the Tigers, who began spring drills less than two months after Watson led them to the program's second national championship.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott made it official on Wednesday, both declaring they will give up their final year of college for the NFL draft.
The two helped the Tigers to a 35-31 victory over No. 1 Alabama to win the national championship on Monday night. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney had said in November the two planned to leave school after this season and the pair took part in the team's Senior Day ceremonies for players not returning.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says there should have been a foul called on the Tigers' game-winning touchdown against Alabama, and it should have been called on the Crimson Tide.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Clemson receiver Artavis Scott missed national championship media day Saturday because he was serving as a pallbearer in his grandfather's funeral.
Coach Dabo Swinney says Scott, a junior from nearby Clearwater, is expected to rejoin the Tigers for a team photo and practice later Saturday.
Scott is Clemson's all-time leader in receptions (242). He graduated in December and already declared for the NFL draft.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, tailback Wayne Gallman and receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott are heading to the NFL after this season.
Coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday that the four juniors are graduating in December and have informed him this would be their last college season. The group will be honored at Senior Day on Saturday when the third-ranked Tigers (9-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) host Pitt.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — The Deshaun Watson watch is on at No. 3 Clemson.
The Tigers' Heisman Trophy contender fell hard on his right, throwing shoulder Saturday just before halftime in a 54-0 win over Syracuse and did not return. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and Watson both said he could've returned, but with the Tigers (9-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) already up by four touchdowns at the break, it was not necessary.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson's mission this week: Hang on to passes and eliminate the drops.
The usually sure-handed receivers for the fifth-ranked Tigers (2-0) have played like there's grease on their hands. The group had eight drops in a way-too-close 30-24 win over Troy last week and they want to turn things around against South Carolina State (0-2) on Saturday.
