MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Health says an assisted living facility in Minneapolis was negligent in caring for a resident who had fallen and later died.
Health investigators say staff at Ebenezer Home Care failed to check on the woman who remained on the floor of her room for about 10 hours last August. The state's report says the woman's health declined, she was later hospitalized and died 26 days after falling.
An assisted living facility is a residence hall for individuals who may need extra care with daily activities, such as medication, meal preparation and household chores, but do not need the full care of a nursing home.
They often feel like small apartments, as most residences require residents to bring their own furnishings and belongings, but can be a better option for some seniors because of the oversight and security they provide.

Woman’s body found outside Sun Prairie assisted living center, police say
The body of an 84-year-old woman was discovered Friday morning outside the assisted living center she lived at in Sun Prairie.
Sun Prairie police said the body was found at about 8:50 a.m. near Faith Gardens, 35 Tower Drive.
"The female was determined to be a resident of Faith Gardens," said police Sgt. Ryan Cox.
