Braves make free agent splash with Donaldson, McCann
ATLANTA (AP) — Brian McCann slipped on the No. 16 jersey he wore for so many years.
"It feels right," he said, over and over again.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shohei Ohtani was rewarded for a Ruthian season at the plate — and on the mound.
Baseball's best two-way player since the Babe at the dawn of the live-ball era a century ago, Ohtani was an overwhelming pick for American League Rookie of the Year on Monday despite an elbow injury that stymied his switch from Japan to the major leagues and likely will prevent him from pitching next year.

Machado, Dodgers finish off Braves in NLDS with 6-2 win

They broke out T-shirts and caps. They posed for pictures in the middle of SunTrust Park. They doused each other with beer in the clubhouse.

For a power-packed team that hasn't won a World Series since 1988, nothing less will do.

Vizcaino, Braves hold off Dodgers 6-5, NLDS deficit now 2-1
ATLANTA (AP) — Freddie Freeman put the Atlanta Braves ahead, then watched from first base as they almost give away the lead — and possibly their whole season.
"My heart's still pounding," he said, moments after the last out. "That's how we've been all year."
Reliever Arodys Vizcaino escaped his own jam in a nervy ninth inning and the Braves stopped the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 Sunday night, avoiding a sweep and cutting their deficit in the NL Division Series to 2-1.
At 20, Braves’ Acuna becomes youngest to hit postseason slam
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Braves rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. has become the youngest player to hit a grand slam in the postseason.

Newcomb to start Game 3 for Braves instead of Gausman
ATLANTA (AP) — With their season on the line, the Atlanta Braves are throwing a changeup.
Trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-0 in their best-of-five NL Division Series, the Braves will start left-hander Sean Newcomb in Game 3 on Sunday night rather than Kevin Gausman. Newcomb nearly pitched a no-hitter against Los Angeles in July, and the Dodgers have beaten right-handers in the first two games of the series.
Kershaw allows 2 hits, Dodgers blank Braves 3-0 for 2-0 lead
LOS ANGELES (AP) — With Sandy Koufax sitting in the front row, Clayton Kershaw pitched the best postseason game of his career, motivated partly by being passed over as the Dodgers' Game 1 starter.
He responded with a postseason career-high eight innings of two-hit ball in his team's second straight playoff shutout, and Manny Machado slugged a two-run homer as Los Angeles beat the Atlanta Braves 3-0 on Friday night for a 2-0 lead in their NL Division Series.
Gausman likely Game 3 starter for Braves; Buehler for LA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kevin Gausman will likely start Game 3 for the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, the Braves decided not to send Gausman back to Atlanta on Friday in case he was needed for Game 2.
Braves, Dodgers tweak starting lineups for Game 2 of NLDS

Baby Braves blanked in Atlanta’s 1st playoff game since 2013
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rather than pop, Ronald Acuna Jr. started the game with a popup. The big-hitting rookie never got into the swing at Dodger Stadium, and neither did the rest of the Atlanta Braves.
Hoping to break loose in their first postseason appearance since 2013, the Braves instead were blanked on six singles Thursday night, losing 6-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers to begin the NL Division Series.
