Koreas win UNESCO recognition of traditional wrestling
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Divided for about seven decades, North and South Korea together won their first international recognition of Korean traditional wrestling as one of the world's cultural treasures on Monday.
The Koreas had earlier pushed separate bids for the sport's UNESCO recognition before merging their applications amid an easing of tensions this year. Local media reports said South Korea had first proposed the joint bid after a leaders' summit at a Korean border village in April.

PARIS (AP) — The United Nations' cultural agency, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq have signed an agreement to finance the reconstruction of a landmark mosque in Mosul that was blown up last year by the Islamic State group.
UNESCO announced Monday that the UAE will provide $50.4 million to finance the project, focusing on the restoration of the Al-Nouri Mosque, built in the 12th century and once famous for its leaning minaret.
UNESCO, French authorities condemn racist abuse of Matuidi
PARIS (AP) — The head of UNESCO and the French sports minister are backing Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who said he was racially abused last weekend.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, Audrey Azoulay and Laura Flessel expressed "the strongest condemnation of the racial slurs" aimed at the Juventus and France midfielder.

PARIS (AP) — UNESCO chief Audrey Azoulay says she has received Israel's official letter announcing its exit from the U.N. cultural body.
Israel previously said it intended to leave the Paris-based agency, citing "systematic attacks on the Jewish state."
Azoulay said in a statement on Friday she deeply regretted the withdrawal, which is set to take effect on Dec. 31 2018.
