ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have placed tight end Austin Fort on injured reserve and signed free agent offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty.
Josh Harshman part of Wyoming’s variety at tight end
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Within the context of Wyoming's passing game, the tight end position was a productive one for the Cowboys a season ago.
Wyoming tight end trio return for 2018 season
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The task that faced Tyree Mayfield, Austin Fort and Josh Harshman last season was a simple but unenviable one: make up for Jacob Hollister's production.
Hollister, now a tight end with the New England Patriots, caught 32 balls for 515 yards and seven touchdowns in 2016 en route to first-team all-Mountain West honors. As a unit, the Wyoming tight ends caught 40 balls for 598 yards and seven scores that year.
LARAMIE — It takes more than one player to replace a quarterback like Josh Allen. So with Wyoming's junior starter sidelined Saturday for the first time since 2015, the Cowboys dialed up some new plays offensively to lend a hand to backup Nick Smith.
Wyoming used a wildcat formation at times in the 13-7 loss to Fresno State, snapping the ball directly to receiver Austin Conway or tight end Austin Fort.
After junior college detour, Gillette graduate Austin Fort feels back at home at Wyoming
LARAMIE — Feather River College has an athletic backup quarterback this season. He's about 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and played point guard in high school.
Nick Goulet, first-year head coach at the Quincy, California, junior college, wanted to find a way to get that athleticism on the field. So last week the Golden Eagles' staff installed a set of plays from Goulet's days as the offensive coordinator at Chabot (California) College.
Wyoming forces 7 turnovers, routs New Mexico 42-3
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming is one of the best teams in the nation in turnover margin, while New Mexico is one of the worst. But few expected the spate of giveaways, seven by the Lobos including five in the first half that turned this one into an early rout.
Josh Allen passed for four touchdowns — two to Austin Fort, who also ran for another — and Wyoming defeated New Mexico 42-3 on Saturday night.
Austin Fort’s 1st career catch produces Wyoming touchdown
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Austin Fort's first career reception took a while to arrive.
Fort missed the first five games of the season with a knee injury. In his first game back, he wasn't targeted. The first four passes thrown his way Saturday at Boise State didn't do the trick, either. One was thrown behind him, and another was intercepted.
But when he and Josh Allen finally connected, it was well worth it. It was a 20-yard touchdown pass that gave Wyoming the lead.
Live blog from Albertsons Stadium: Wyoming holds 14-10 lead on Boise State early in the 4th quarter
BOISE - The Boise State football team holds a 10-7 lead over Wyoming in the third quarter at Albertsons Stadium.
Boise State trailed 7-3 at the half, but opened the third quarter with an 18-play, 71-yard drive that took 9:44 off the clock. Montell Cozart scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to put the Broncos in front 10-7.
But Allen responded with a drive that showed just why some NFL scouts and draft pundits think he could be the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to put Wyoming right back in front.
LARAMIE — Austin Fort wasn’t able to play this season until Wyoming’s game Saturday at Utah State. There are worse ways to end your debut than with a trophy in your hand.
Fort and linebacker Logan Wilson, both Wyoming natives, were the first to get to the Bridger Rifle traveling trophy after Wyoming’s 28-23 win over the Aggies.
