Florida State backup quarterback Hockman transfers
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State backup quarterback Bailey Hockman has decided to transfer, leaving the No. 19 Seminoles without much depth at the position.
Hockman was at Thursday's practice but was absent on Friday. A school spokesperson confirmed Hockman's intention to transfer. He hasn't decided what school to attend.
Francois named No. 19 Florida State’s starting QB
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Deondre Francois is back in the driver's seat.
The junior quarterback beat out James Blackman and Bailey Hockman for the opportunity to start for No. 19 Florida State in the season opener against No. 20 Virginia Tech on Sept. 3. Coach Willie Taggart made the announcement on Monday prior to practice.
"In every scrimmage we've had, he's been really impressive," Taggart said. "And the same thing in practice. And they all have. It's been a good competition.
Florida State wraps up practice at IMG; QB job still open
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Florida State wrapped up four days of training camp at IMG Academy with coach Willie Taggart saying the Seminoles accomplished several things as they prepare for their season opener against Virginia Tech.
"I thought we got a lot done," Taggart said Thursday. "I'm really impressed with the way the guys competed in practice. Plays that they're not familiar with, we got better. It was just as if we were practicing at Florida State."
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Quarterback competitions are nothing new for Florida State, which has had four in the last six seasons.
But this competition is quite different from preseasons past. The Seminoles opened their first preseason under new coach Willie Taggart on Monday with two quarterbacks with starting experience.
Taggart, whose Florida State coaching debut will be Sept. 3 against Virginia Tech, said he has no timetable to make a decision.
