PRAGUE (AP) — Karolina Pliskova will be the top player for defending Fed Cup champion Czech Republic in its first-round meeting with Romania, after Australian Open finalist Petra Kvitova pulled out.
Pliskova lost in the Australian Open semifinals this month to Naomi Osaka, who then defeated Kvitova in the final.
Ram-Krejcikova combine to win Australian Open mixed doubles
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — First-time partners Rajeev Ram and Barbora Krejcikova are Grand Slam mixed doubles champions.
The U.S.-Czech combination beat Australian wildcards John-Patrick Smith and Astra Sharma 7-6 (3), 6-1 to win the Australian Open mixed doubles title on Saturday.

Pliskova out of Fed Cup final, Krejcikova in for Czechs
PRAGUE (AP) — World No. 8 Karolina Pliskova has been ruled out of the Czech Republic team in the Fed Cup final against the defending champion United States next weekend due to calf muscle and wrist injuries.
The Czech team says Pliskova was injured last week during the WTA Finals in Singapore, where she lost to Sloane Stephens of the United States in the semifinals.

NADAL WINS AGAIN
Rafael Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to win a record-extending 11th title at the French Open. Nadal became the second player in tennis history to win 11 singles titles at any Grand Slam tournament after Margaret Court, who claimed 11 Australian Open titles. Nadal will remain at the top of the ATP rankings ahead of Roger Federer. Nadal and Federer have won the past six Grand Slam tournaments between them.
NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Kiki Bertens defended her Nuremberg Cup title with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Czech qualifier Barbora Krejcikova in the clay-court tournament final on Saturday.
Top-seeded Bertens had little difficulty against the 254th-ranked Krejcikova, hitting seven aces to win in under an hour at the French Open warmup.
The 21-year-old Krejcikova was playing her seventh match of the week and her first WTA singles final.

NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Home favorite Laura Siegemund was forced to withdraw during her second-round match at the Nuremberg Cup on Wednesday, while top-seeded Kiki Bertens and Yulia Putintseva both advanced.
The fourth-seeded Siegemund suffered a right knee injury with the score 5-5 in the second set against Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic. Siegemund, who was assisted with a stretcher off the court, had won the opening set 6-4.
