LONDON (AP) — Barrick Gold has agreed to buy Randgold Resources for $6.1 billion in stock to create the world's largest gold miner, worth a combined $18 billion.
Investors will get 6.128 new Barrick shares for each Randgold share they hold. Shareholders in Barrick, which is based in Toronto, will own about 66.6 percent of the merged company, which will combine Randgold's African mines with Barrick's holdings in the Americas.

ELKO, Nevada (AP) — Gold production is on the rise in Nevada.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports gold production in the "Silver State" rose 2.4 percent in 2016 to nearly 5.5 million ounces (155 million grams).
According to Nevada Division of Minerals, silver production was down 6.4 percent to a nearly 8.9 million ounces (252 million grams).
The two largest gold producers were Barrick Gold Corp. and Newmont Mining Corp.
Southwestern Montana gold mine plans expansion
BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — A gold mine in southwestern Montana is seeking state and federal permits to expand.
Golden Sunlight proposes mining in a 3.4-mile (5.5 kilometer) tunnel north of Whitehall. The Bureau of Land Management is accepting public comment through May 15.
Canadian-based Barrick Gold Corp. has been working since 2015 to permit the project.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Barrick Gold Corp. says it will spend $400,000 over the next three years in a partnership with Cisco Systems Inc. and Great Basin College in Elko to provide job skills and training for workers in the digital age.

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) — Company officials say a worker is dead after he was found unresponsive at a gold mine near Winnemucca.
Barrick Gold Corporation says 39-year-old Jerry Sharr was found in an underground equipment wash bay at the Turquoise Ridge Joint Venture mine a little after 1 a.m. on Friday.
The company says emergency responders tried to resuscitate him at the scene. He was pronounced dead at Humboldt General Hospital.
Elko vigil planned for crew, patient killed in plane crash
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A northeast Nevada community planned a candlelight memorial Monday to mourn four people killed in the crash of a medical aircraft shortly after takeoff last week from Elko Regional Airport.
The evening event at an Elko park was set to remember American Medflight pilot Yuji Irie, paramedic Jake Shepherd, nurse Tiffany Urresti and their patient, Edward Clohesey of Spring Creek, Nevada, the Elko Daily Free Press reported (http://bit.ly/2fW71yU ).
Elko police: Pilot likely saved lives in medical plane crash
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Although four people died when a medical aircraft went down in northern Nevada, police say the pilot probably prevented more casualties by crashing the plane into a parking lot and avoiding nearby homes and businesses.
The pilot, two medical crew members and a patient were killed after the American MedFlight plane crashed and caught on fire Friday night shortly after taking off from Elko Regional Airport.
