When the anthem was over, he turned back to the visitors' bench and got back to work on trying to earn some more banners to hang — in New York.

Capitals hire Arniel, Cashman as assistant coaches
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — The defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals filled out new coach Todd Reirden's staff Monday by hiring Scott Arniel and Reid Cashman as assistants.
For all the continuity on their roster, the Capitals have undergone the most change behind the bench this summer. Coach Barry Trotz resigned after winning the Cup in his fourth season and went to the New York Islanders, taking assistant Lane Lambert and goaltending coordinator Mitch Korn with him.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Islanders have hired longtime goalie guru Mitch Korn as director of goaltending.
Korn rejoins coach Barry Trotz, who he worked under with the Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals. Korn was director of goaltending with Trotz and the Capitals last season when they won the Stanley Cup.
The team announced the hire Thursday. Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said recently they told Korn he'd be welcome to stay, but the 60-year-old decided to also join the Islanders.

Reirden replacing Trotz among minimal changes for Capitals
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Next season's defending champion Washington Capitals will look a lot like the group that won the Stanley Cup last month.

Taking over Stanley Cup champion is no easy task for a coach
For Colin Campbell, going from Mike Keenan's top assistant to head coach of the New York Rangers wasn't a big move.
"I just had to move 10 feet to another office," Campbell said.
Logistically it was simple, but in every other way it was an almost-impossible task. Campbell took over the Rangers after they ended a 54-year drought and paraded the Stanley Cup down Broadway because Keenan left in a contract dispute.
