South Asian, Southeast Asian leaders discuss closer ties
KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Leaders of seven South Asian and Southeast Asian nations are meeting in Nepal to discuss regional trade, economic cooperation, security and peace.
The two-day summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation began Thursday in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital. It groups Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Boat carrying fleeing Rohingya Muslims sinks, at least 4 die
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — A boat carrying up to 45 Rohingya Muslims fleeing Myanmar capsized in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning, and a Bangladeshi official said four bodies were recovered.
It was not clear how many people were missing.
Mohammed Mikaruzzaman, local government administrator at Ukhiya, said some 23 people were rescued and a dozen of them were being treated.
The boat capsized Tuesday morning near Inani beach in Cox's Bazar district, which borders Myanmar.

COX'S BAZAR, Bangladesh (AP) — An overcrowded boat carrying Rohingya Muslims fleeing Myanmar capsized in the confluence of a river and the Bay of Bengal and at least 12 people died, police said Monday. Five of the dead were children.
Up to 35 people were on the boat and eight survived the capsizing, local police official Mainuddin Khan said. He said rescuers have retrieved 12 dead bodies but it was not exactly clear how many were missing. The search was continuing, but the sea remained rough.
At least 15 Rohingya fleeing Myanmar die in boat sinking
COX'S BAZAR, Bangladesh (AP) — At least 15 Rohingya Muslims, including 10 children, who were fleeing from recent violence in Myanmar died Thursday when their overcrowded boat capsized in rough weather near shore in the Bay of Bengal, a survivor and police said.
Police official Chailaw Marma said at least 10 injured people were being treated at a hospital in Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh.

9 drown as boat capsizes in India
A government official says at least nine Indian tourists drowned as a fishing boat sank during a joyride in the Bay of Bengal in southern India.
Government administrator M. Ravi Kumar says the accident occurred on Sunday in high tide and the victims were without any safety equipment such as life jackets.
Kumar said 11 people have been rescued and hospitalized in Tuticorin, a town in Tamil Nadu state.
