Chasity Melvin joins Hornets’ G League team coaching staff
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Chasity Melvin has been hired by the Charlotte Hornets' G League team, the Greensboro Swarm, as an assistant coach.
She becomes the first female coach in Hornets and Swarm history.
The former North Carolina State standout was the 11th overall selection in the 1999 WNBA draft. She played 12 seasons in the WNBA and was an All-Star in 2001.

The Spurs announced Wednesday that they have promoted Hammon, and that she will fill the spot vacated by James Borrego on the team's roster of assistant coaches.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon plans to interview for the Milwaukee Bucks' coaching job, a person familiar with the search told The Associated Press.
The person requested anonymity because the team does not comment on potential candidates.
A woman has never been a head coach in the NBA. Hammon is the first full-time female assistant in the league.
One of the more disappointing details to come out of former San Antonio Police Capt. Shawn Ury’s quest to get his job back is the lack of women in the department, especially among leadership.

Nash, Kidd, Hill, Allen eligible for basketball Hall of Fame
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash, fellow star point guard Jason Kidd, Grant Hill and Ray Allen are among six first-year candidates for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Detroit Pistons backcourt of Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton also became eligible after the Hall changed its rules to allow players to reach the ballot after three years of retirement.
Kings name Jenny Boucek assistant player development coach
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Former WNBA coach and player Jenny Boucek has joined the Sacramento Kings staff as an assistant player development coach.
The Kings announced Friday that the ex-Seattle Storm coach was now on Dave Joerger's staff, returning to Sacramento where she coached the defunct Sacramento Monarchs from 2007-09. Boucek most recently coached the Storm for three seasons from 2015-17.
Boucek joins San Antonio's Becky Hammon as active NBA assistant coaches.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because details of the coaching search have not been made public.
NBA Summer League over for 16 teams in consolation play

No. 1 pick Ben Simmons returned for his final summer game and had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Simmons had sat out the last two games. Shawn Long led the 76ers (2-4) with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Heat rested Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson and most of their top players again in finishing 3-3.
