Giant Monterey cypress on Olympic Peninsula to be cut down
PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) — One of the largest Monterey cypress trees in Washington is rotting on the inside and must be cut down.
The tree that's 60 feet (18 meters) tall and 33 feet (10 meters) round is on property owned by John Eissinger and next to his Blue Gull Inn Bed and Breakfast in Port Townsend.
About a third of the 150-year-old tree broke off last week and damaged three vehicles.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said Tuesday that the lighthouse would close on July 1 and will reopen by July 31.
The repairs will address several cracked interior metal columns on the facility's upper floor and will cost about $135,000.

Fans of ‘The Waltons’ plan new replica house
SCHUYLER, Va. (AP) — Owners of the childhood home of the late Earl Hamner Jr. are planning to build a replica of the two-story home made famous in "The Waltons," Hamner's signature television creation.
The house will have a similar porch and first floor as the home portrayed in the popular '70s TV show, said Ray Castro, who co-owns the Waltons Hamner House with Carole Johnson, both long-time fans of the show. When finished, the replica house also will serve as a bed and breakfast, he said.

The Jefferson County Health Department conducts quarterly inspections of all food establishments or locations that handle food in the county. Health inspections become a public record 10 days after the inspection takes place. The documents highlight critical, noncritical and repeat violations during each inspection or follow-up.
