Remains of missing woman found in woods, death suspicious
VERLOT, Wash. (AP) — The remains of a missing Whatcom County woman have been found in the woods off the Mountain Loop Highway.
The Daily Herald reports the death of Vera Izhevskiy is considered suspicious, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
Izhevskiy, from the Maple Falls area, was last seen alive on Nov. 10, 2016, in Bellingham. She was 25.

Lawsuit: Bellingham Police tolerates violent officers
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A Bellingham man has sued the city and former Bellingham Police officer Brooks Laughlin claiming Laughlin used excessive force during an arrest and that the department has a policy of tolerating violent officers.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a woman and two dogs in northwest Washington state.

Authorities seek person in hit-and-run that killed man
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol is asking the public to help them find the person who was driving a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident that killed a man north of Bellingham.
Trooper Heather Axtman says Daniel Holcomb was struck and killed by a motorist at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday as he walked along the westbound shoulder of Grandview Road near Interstate 5.
Axtman says detectives believe the motorist fled in a pick-up truck or SUV with front-end damage.
High wind warnings for Northwest coast, inland Washington
SEATTLE (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Thursday on the Washington and Oregon coast and for inland areas including Seattle.
Along the coast the warning goes into effect at 1 a.m. Thursday with winds from 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
The Weather Service also has issued a coastal flood warning on the Washington coast Thursday with waves up to 28 feet and flooding in low lying areas.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a Kent man was arrested at the Canadian border on a warrant stemming from a seven-vehicle crash in 2017 that killed one person.
The Bellingham Herald reports 35-year-old Sandeep Singh was taken into custody Sunday in Blaine by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations for a felony vehicular homicide warrant.

SEATTLE (AP) — National Weather Service officials in Seattle have issued a winter storm warning for Washington's Cascade mountains starting early Tuesday.
Officials say heavy snow is expected above 2,500 feet (762 meters) starting at 4 a.m. Tuesday and continuing through 4 a.m. Wednesday.
The storm will bring snow to the Cascade mountains and valleys from roughly east of Bellingham in the north to east of Toledo in the southern part of the state.

Man who threatened motel manager, deputies, sentenced
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A Whatcom County man who barricaded himself inside a motel room and threatened to kill the manager and deputies who responded will spend roughly three months in jail.

Prosecutors say Calvin assaulted Jones on Nov. 30, 2016, handcuffed him to a ladder and beat him over several hours because he believed Jones had stolen money from him.
Ex-Bellingham cop found guilty of domestic violence abuse
