Former SMU QB Ben Hicks to transfer to Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Former SMU quarterback Ben Hicks will play his final year at Arkansas.
Hicks made the announcement on Twitter . He will reunite with Arkansas coach Chad Morris and coordinator Joe Craddock, who recruited him to SMU in 2015.
Hicks is SMU's all-time leader with 9,081 yards and 71 touchdown passes. Last season, he completed 208 of 372 passes for 2,582 yards, with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Tulsa denies SMU’s bowl hopes with a 27-24 win
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Seth Boomer threw for 251 yards and a touchdown and Tulsa thwarted SMU's bowl hopes with a 27-24 win on Saturday.
The Mustangs were looking for their sixth win for the second consecutive week to become bowl eligible for the second straight year. Memphis beat SMU 28-18 last week.
Taylor runs Memphis past SMU in 28-18 win
DALLAS (AP) — Patrick Taylor Jr., ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns and Memphis beat SMU 28-18 on Friday night.
Brady White's 16-yard touchdown pass to Joey Magnifico with 9:26 before halftime gave Memphis a 7-3 lead it never surrendered. Taylor's 9-yard run after intermission extended the lead to 14-5. Ben Hicks threw a 31-yard score to James Proche just before the end of the third and SMU was with two but couldn't get closer.
Freeman, Jones help SMU outscore UConn 62-50
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — SMU has all its running backs healthy and the Mustangs may just rush their way into a bowl game.
Ke'Mon Freeman and Xavier Jones each ran for more than 100 yards and combined for five touchdowns as SMU outscored UConn 62-50 on Saturday.
Ben Hicks threw for 276 yards and a score for the Mustangs (5-5, 4-2 American), who are at .500 for the first time this season.

DALLAS (AP) — James Wiggins returned an interception 86 yards for a touchdown in overtime, giving Cincinnati a 26-20 win over Southern Methodist on Saturday afternoon.
SMU's Ben Hicks threw over the middle early in overtime and Wiggins stepped in front of the intended receiver for the interception, then ran 86 yards untouched for the winning score.
Cincinnati trailed 20-17 when Cole Smith booted a 41-yard field goal as regulation expired, forcing the overtime.
SMU goes for win in OT, tops Navy 31-30 on 2-point pass
DALLAS (AP) — Sonny Dykes decided not to wait for his first win as coach at SMU. He had to anyway.
Hunter Thedford caught a 2-point conversion pass in the first overtime on a play that led to several minutes of discussion by officials and a review before it was held up, and the Mustangs beat Navy 31-30 on Saturday for their first win over the Midshipmen in 20 years.

DALLAS (AP) — Ben Hicks threw for 338 yards and two touchdowns, and SMU became bowl eligible for the first time since 2012 with a 38-34 victory over Tulsa on Friday night.
Tulsa went for it on fourth-and-8 from its own 35 with less than three minutes remaining in the game, but Demerick Gary sacked Luke Skipper and SMU ran out the clock after getting a first down on Trey Quinn's 13-yard catch.

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Ben Hicks accounted for three touchdowns, Ke'Mon Freeman had 92 of SMU's 315 yards rushing and two touchdowns and the Mustangs beat Arkansas State 44-21 on Saturday night.
Hicks had a 7-yard run to cap the scoring and threw touchdown passes of 55 and 49 yards to James Proche, who finished with three receptions for 131 yards for SMU (3-1). Xavier Jones had 19 carries for 146 yards and receiver Courtland Sutton added a 2-yard TD run.

DALLAS (AP) — Ben Hicks threw for 112 yards and two touchdowns as SMU jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 58-14 win over Stephen F. Austin in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.
D.J. Gillins rushed for two scores and Ke'Mon Freeman added a third. Braeden West led all rushers with 86 yards on six carries.
Richardson’s 2 pick-6s spark SMU 55-31
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Horace Richardson returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns and SMU beat East Carolina 54-31 on Saturday.
Richardson's 70-yard return put the Mustangs in front 31-17 in the second quarter and his 80-yarder in the third made it 45-24.
The picks were the fifth and sixth for Richardson, and with Darrion Millines making his fifth, the Mustangs have 17 this season. SMU came in tied for third nationally in that category and has interceptions in eight of its 10 games.
Ferguson throws for 4 TDs, Memphis blows out SMU 51-7
DALLAS (AP) — Riley Ferguson went 20-of-27 for 287 yards and four touchdowns and Memphis beat SMU 51-7 on Saturday.
Memphis gained 257 total yards in the first half and led 38-7. Ferguson had TD passes of 50, 4, 20 and 21 yards before halftime and Darrell Henderson returned a kickoff 99-yards for a touchdown.

DALLAS (AP) — Fans chanted "S-M-U" when the Mustangs, three-touchdown underdogs against No. 11 Houston, took a lead that big in the first half.
They were chanting again in the final moments of a 38-16 victory Saturday, one of the biggest for a program that's been mostly moribund in three decades since getting shut down by crippling sanctions under the NCAA's so-called death penalty.

Evans TD run in OT gives Tulsa 43-40 win over SMU
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Quarterback Dane Evans went 14 yards untouched for the winning touchdown in overtime, lifting Tulsa to a 43-40 victory over SMU on Friday night.
Evans cut up field on an option play to the right to end a wild game that saw the lead change hands four times in the second half.
Josh Williams kicked a 25-yard field goal on the final play of regulation and added a 22-yarder on SMU's possession to open overtime.
Armstead scores twice as Temple defeats SMU 45-20
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ryquell Armstead scored a pair of touchdowns and rushed for more yards than he'd gained all last month as Temple recovered from an early pick-six to defeat SMU 45-20 on Saturday.
The sophomore broke up the left sideline 37 yards to score the game's final TD and gained 159 of the Owls' 244 yards rushing. Armstead had gained 154 yards in all of September.
Sutton snags 3 TD passes in SMU’s 34-21 win over North Texas
DENTON, Texas (AP) — Courtland Sutton only made four catches but three went for touchdowns in SMU's 34-21 victory over North Texas in a season opener on Saturday.
Sutton finished with 162 yards receiving, including an 88-yarder from Ben Hicks for the fifth-longest touchdown pass in Mustangs history. Sutton's other two TD receptions were thrown by Matt Davis. Xavier Jones added 115 yards and a score on 11 carries as the Mustangs rolled up 572 yards offense.
