Ronnie Milsap returned to his iconic studio for duets album
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country soul icon Ronnie Milsap is a bit of a studio geek, and he thinks a lot about music technology and recording equipment. So it makes sense that he spent a long time getting 13 other singers and bands into the studio to record duets with him for a new album, "Ronnie Milsap: The Duets," to be released Friday, just two days after his 76th birthday.

Review: Tom Jones among artists singing Elmore James’ blues
Various Artists, "Strange Angels: In Flight With Elmore James" (Sylvan Songs)
Elmore James has been dead 54 years, and the blues aren't doing too well either. This lively tribute album gives both a boost.

STAMFORD — Paul Nelson can still see the image of an ebullient Johnny Winter leaning over the studio mixing desk as he predicted their last album would be a mega hit several years ago.
“He said, ‘If they don’t give us a Grammy for this, they’re crazy,’” Nelson, a Stamford native, recalled with a laugh. “I said, ‘Wow, we’re not actually doing this to get one, but it would be nice.’”
