SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said Thursday he would support Sen. Mike Lee if he was nominated for the U.S. Supreme Court, but he likely wouldn't name himself as Lee's replacement if the senator was chosen and confirmed.
Lee and his brother, Utah Supreme Court Justice Thomas Rex Lee, are both on the list of 25 names President Donald Trump is considering for the vacancy left by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Republican mayor of the Mormon stronghold of Provo, Utah, breezed to a special election victory Tuesday to replace former U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz in a heavily GOP congressional district.
John Curtis had a 30 percentage point lead over Democrat Kathryn Allen, unofficial results showed. Third-party candidate Jim Bennett, a centrist and the son of former longtime U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, finished a distant third.

Preliminary numbers released just after 8 p.m. Tuesday show Provo Mayor John Curtis with a large lead in the race for the 3rd Congressional District.
Numbers released Tuesday night, after polls closed, showed Curtis with nearly 60 percent of the vote over Democratic opponent Kathie Allen, who received approximately 25 percent of the vote.
United Utah Candidate Jim Bennett, who is the son of former U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, is in a distant third with just over 9 percent of the vote.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Third-party candidate Jim Bennett has earned a place in a televised debate for candidates running to replace Republican Jason Chaffetz in Congress.
The Utah Debate Commission announced Friday that Bennett, the son of former Sen. Bob Bennett, met the group's polling threshold and can participate.
Jim Bennett is running as the first candidate of the new United Utah party staking out a centrist position.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Final election results from a three-way Republican race to replace Jason Chaffetz in Congress show Provo Mayor John Curtis captured 43 percent of the vote to become the GOP's nominee.
Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox on Thursday certified the results of the Aug. 15 election.
The results show 40 percent of active Republican voters in Utah's 3rd Congressional District participated.
Turnout in last year's primary when Chaffez easily defeated a longshot challenger was 33 percent.
