Ex-Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops back with XFL’s Dallas team
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Bob Stoops initially rejected the idea of coming out of retirement to join the reincarnation of the XFL.
Then the former Oklahoma coach had time to think about all the extra time in his schedule roughly a year and a half after he stepped away from the Sooners after 18 seasons .
NFL could come calling for Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Watch any NFL telecast that involves a struggling team, and Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley likely will be mentioned as a potential candidate for that coaching job.
It makes sense. In just 18 months since replacing Bob Stoops, Riley's high-powered offenses have produced Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield and led the way to two College Football Playoff berths. Riley's Sooners face Alabama on Dec. 29 in a national semifinal at the Orange Bowl.
Kyler Murray needs win at Texas Tech to keep OU on track
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — What figures to be Kyler Murray's one-and-done attempt to get No. 7 Oklahoma back to the College Football Playoff will require a win in an atmosphere significantly more hostile because of a prime-time kickoff.
Oklahoma coach Riley ready to build on success in 2nd year
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — A year ago, new Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was scrambling to find his way after Bob Stoops' abrupt retirement put him in command just two months before fall camp.
The 34-year-old offensive mastermind now has a season under his belt and the kind of pay increase that often comes with a job well done. He led Oklahoma to a No. 3 final ranking and cashed in with a new five-year, $25 million contract.
OU football: Lincoln Riley earns FWAA national coach award, reflects on first year and timeline for 10th assistant coach hire
Lincoln Riley admits he learned a lot in his first season as Oklahoma’s head coach.
His rookie campaign was a whirlwind that ended less than seven months after his promotion to head coach following Bob Stoops’ surprise retirement.
From the season’s opening scoring drive against UTEP to Georgia’s final double-overtime touchdown in the Rose Bowl, Riley said he doesn’t know how to quantify what he has learned.
Oklahoma’s defense will absorb a loss during a week filled with recruiting gains.
Du’Vonta Lampkin declared via social media that he will declare for the 2018 NFL Draft. A redshirt sophomore in 2017, the 6-4, 335-pounder finished with 23 tackles and five tackles for loss for the Sooners.
Lampkin's decision was first reported by Carey Murdock of SoonerScoop.com on Sunday night.
Lampkin only played two seasons at Oklahoma. He redshirted in 2015 and had five tackles in five games in 2016.
OU Football: Sooners strike gold in developing IMG Academy pipeline (and how Bob Stoops set that foundation in 2006)
Oklahoma made huge gains in developing a pipeline with the prestigious IMG Academy during this recruiting cycle.
The Sooners picked up two valuable prospects in their 2018 class with running back T.J. Pledger (who signed during the early period) and cornerback Brendan Radley-Hiles, a five-star recruit who announced his pledge while playing in Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Game.
Kevin Wright, IMG’s head football coach, has been impressed with OU’s recruiting prowess.
Oklahoma’s Riley proves capable in first year as head coach
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — In his first year as Oklahoma's head coach, Lincoln Riley came within one more touchdown of playing for a national title.

OU football notebook: Riley defends Big 12 defenses, says OU had no trouble moving against SEC defense
Taking offense to defensive talk
The national perspective of Big 12 defenses hasn’t been great since Oklahoma’s 62-52 win against Oklahoma State on Saturday night.
During his Monday news conference, Lincoln Riley took offense to the outcry.
Will Oklahoma's Abdul Adams, CeeDee Lamb, Steven Parker, Dru Samia and others be healthy enough to play Saturday against Texas?
As of Wednesday evening, that is still unknown.
“A couple of those guys were pretty banged up in that (Iowa State) game and haven’t been able to do a whole lot,” Sooners coach Lincoln Riley said. “We’ve tried to let a few of them let some things calm down and try to make some decisions here later in the week.”
OU Football: Lincoln Riley on defensive coaching changes: “That’s not on the table”
NORMAN – Lincoln Riley will remain loyal to his defensive coaching staff despite a recent downward trend, the Oklahoma coach said during Monday’s press conference.
The Sooners have struggled on defense following the past two games under defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, giving up 41 points against Baylor and 38 points in Saturday’s setback to Iowa State. It was similar to a 2016 slide that included giving up 59 points (Texas Tech), 46 points (TCU) and 40 (Texas).
Guerin Emig: Been a long time since there’s been a day this horrifying at Owen Field
NORMAN — You must tear through Bob Stoops’ tenure, through John Blake’s, through Howard Schnellenberger’s cameo and Gary Gibbs’ ill-fated succession... all the way back to when Barry Switzer was young and cocksure and made you feel he could conquer the world.
Guerin Emig: Sooners show extraordinary potential even on a more ordinary night
NORMAN — Lincoln Riley is human and so is his football team.
This we learned during Oklahoma’s 56-14 exercise against Tulane on Saturday night at Owen Field. Riley, the heretofore unflappable rookie head coach, became very flappable when he saw a replay of CeeDee Lamb’s second-quarter targeting penalty. Riley saw it as a clean, if vicious, block and raced over to an official to protest. Then he called timeout and protested some more.
OU football: Baker Mayfield’s evolution as a passer could make a difference in Ohio State rematch
NORMAN — There was only one game last season in which Baker Mayfield completed fewer than 60 percent of his passes.
That was against Ohio State, when the Buckeyes won 45-24 in Norman. Ohio State gave Bob Stoops the worst home loss of his coaching career, sang O-H-I-O on the field after the game and left Mayfield with smeared eye-black taking all the blame in his postgame media session.
Mayfield completes 19 of 20 as No. 7 Oklahoma tops UTEP 56-7
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — With such efficiency in his head coaching debut, there's no telling what's in store for Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma Sooners.
Baker Mayfield missed just one pass and threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns in one half of work to help No. 7 Oklahoma roll past UTEP 56-7 on Saturday.
Mayfield completed 19 of 20 overall. He connected on 16 straight to start the game and didn't miss until just under four minutes remained in the second quarter.

New Oklahoma coach Riley still adjusting to promotion
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Lincoln Riley is still getting used to his new job as Oklahoma's head football coach.

CHICAGO (AP) — Kirk Ferentz enters his 19th season as Iowa as the longest tenured Bowl Subdivision coach in the country. He isn't dwelling much on his longevity.
"I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it," Ferentz said Monday at Big Ten media days. "I feel very, very fortunate. This will be my, I guess, 28th year at Iowa and feel fortunate that, in 1981, I somehow, some way, ended up there as an assistant."
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Lincoln Riley never expected this.
Two months ago, he was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.
