RENO, Nevada – By the end of the night, every basketball fan in the Big Sky Conference had to wonder:

In a remarkable performance Friday night, Bliznyuk became the leading scorer in conference history and the Eagles held off Southern Utah 82-70 to reach the Big Sky Tournament title game for the second time in four years.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk made 13 of 17 from the field and finished with 32 points to become to Big Sky Conference's career-scoring leader as Eastern Washington beat Southern Utah 82-70 on Friday night in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Bliznyuk, who has 2,127 career points, moved past Idaho's Orlando Lightfoot, who scored 2,102 from 1991-94.

On a day when the favorites played down to the level of the competition, the Eagles elevated their game to new heights Thursday night.
Seizing the momentum from the opening tip, Eastern rode a dominant first half to a 78-72 win over Portland State and a spot in the Big Sky Tournament Conference semifinals.
“We came out with a lot of energy, and we’ve been doing that a lot lately,” coach Shantay Legans said. “I couldn’t be a happier coach.”
RENO, Nevada (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk scored 35 points and third-seeded Eastern Washington held off a late Portland State rally to beat the sixth-seeded Vikings 78-72 in a Big Sky Conference Tournament quarterfinal game Thursday night.
Eastern Washington (19-13) faces No. 10 seed Southern Utah in a semifinal game on Friday.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk set an NCAA single-season record with his 74th consecutive free throw Saturday and Eastern Washington made 16 3-pointers to beat Northern Arizona 85-68.
Bliznyuk, who passed Gary Buchanan's 73 consecutive free throws for Villanova in the 2000-01 season, finished with 15 points and 10 assists on his Senior Day. The Eagles (18-13, 13-5 Big Sky) ended the regular season tied with Weber State and will have a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
Eastern Washington certainly made a few points Thursday night.
Besides the obvious ones – the Eagles routed Southern Utah 74-51 in front of an appreciative crowd at Reese Court – they reinforced what coach Shantay Legans already knew:
This team has a chance to do something special next week.
“We’re right up there with the best teams, so I’m really excited about our chances,” Legans said after the Eagles won their fifth straight game to improve to 17-13 overall and 12-5 in the Big Sky Conference.
CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk, who has won the last two Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honors, staked a big claim to a third straight honor, putting up 32 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to help power Eastern Washington to a 74-51 rout of Southern Utah in the penultimate game of the regular season Thursday night.
The Eagles are tied with Weber State for third place in the Big Sky after the Wildcats lost at Montana, 75-57.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk drilled a late 3-pointer to put Eastern Washington in front for good, sending the Eagles to a 74-69 Big Sky Conference victory over Idaho State Saturday night.
Bliznyuk scored 17 points, making him the fifth player in Big Sky history to score more than 2,000 career points.
The Eagles (16-13, 11-5) earn a sweep of their road trip, winning at Weber State Thursday. EWU hosts Southern Utah and Northern Arizona to close out the regular season.
Weber State’s 9-game winning streak halted in loss to Eastern Washington
OGDEN — Weber State couldn’t make the late plays it needed on either end of the floor — including stopping Bogdan Bliznyuk in the paint — and saw its nine-game winning streak snapped with a 75-70 loss to Eastern Washington at the Dee Events Center.

The Wildcats (19-8, 12-3), with alum and Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard in attendance, dropped a game behind first-place Montana (13-2), which was idle, in the Big Sky Conference while the Eagles (15-13, 10-5) moved to within a game of third-place Idaho (11-4), which lost at Idaho State.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk scored 25 points with nine rebounds and nine assists, and Eastern Washington beat Montana State 84-79 on Saturday.
Mason Peatling scored 19 points with 13 rebounds, and Jack Perry and Cody Benzel scored 11 points apiece and combined for six of 10 3s for the Eagles (14-13, 9-5 Big Sky Conference).

Sanders blocks shot at buzzer; Idaho edges EWU 66-64
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Nate Sherwood scored 23 points, and Victor Sanders blocked a shot at the buzzer to give Idaho a 66-64 victory over Eastern Washington on Friday night.
Idaho (17-7, 9-3 Big Sky Conference) has won seven of its last eight games and moves into third place in the conference standings, a half-game back of Weber State (9-2). Eastern Washington (12-13, 7-5) has lost two straight.
Woods scores 29, Portland State tops Eastern Washington
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Holland Woods scored a career-high 29 points on a school record 10-for-10 shooting and Portland State lead from wire-to-wire for a 94-81 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday.
Traylin Farris and Deante Strickland each added 13 points for the Vikings (14-9, 4-6 Big Sky Conference), who ended a three-game losing skid and stopped the Eagles' three-game winning streak. Brandon Hollins and Michael Mayhew scored 12 apiece.
Bliznyuk scores 40, E. Washington tops Sacramento St. 74-54
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk continued his climb up the Big Sky scoring ladder, pouring in 40 points on 15-of-18 shooting and Eastern Washington turned back Sacramento State in the second half for a 74-54 victory Thursday night.
The win holds the Eagles (12-11, 7-3) in third place in the Big Sky behind undefeated Montana and 7-2 Weber State.

Eastern Washington edges Northern Arizona from line, 81-76
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk hit four free throws in the final six seconds to cement Eastern Washington's 81-76 victory over Northern Arizona in a Big Sky Conference battle Thursday night.
Eastern Washington has now won four of the last seven games it's played at Northern Arizona. A loss in Flagstaff cost the Eagles a share of the Big Sky title a year ago.
Idaho puts the defensive clamps on Eastern Washington men in 58-51 victory
After talking all week about defending the home court, Eastern Washington did just that Friday night.
The Eagles held Idaho to 40-percent shooting and just 29 percent from long range, and made Vandals star Victor Sanders earn every one of his game-high 18 points.
That should have been enough, but Eastern faltered badly at the other end during a 58-51 Big Sky Conference loss in front of 2,334 fans at Reese Court.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Victor Sanders scored 18 points and Brayon Blake added 11, including a key 3-pointer late, as Idaho pulled away in the last 13 minutes to defeat Eastern Washington 58-51 Friday night, capping a comeback from 14 points down and snapping a 12-game home win streak for the Eagles.
Idaho, the preseason favorite in the Big Sky Conference, held EWU's Bogdan Bliznyuk to 14 points on 5 of 14 shooting. Bliznyuk was held scoreless for more than 32 minutes.
Bogdan Bliznyuk, Delaney Hodgins poised to become career scoring leaders at Eastern Washington
Quietly but surely, Bogdan Bliznyuk and Delaney Hodgins are about to become the leading career scorers in Eastern Washington basketball history.
Both are soft-spoken senior forwards, known more for versatility than showmanship.
Bliznyuk is chasing former Eagles star Venky Jois, who rewrote the record books with thunderous dunks that rocked Reese Court.
Hodgins is pursuing older sister Hayley, who broke the EWU career record two years ago, thanks mostly to her stellar 3-point shooting.

Cody Benzel took what Sacramento State gave him Saturday afternoon – and then some.
As the Hornets put the clamps on leading scorer Bogdan Bliznyuk, the junior from Ferris came through with a career day to give Eastern Washington an 82-67 Big Sky Conference win over Sacramento State.
“It’s about time to have one of those games,” said Benzel, who hit 7 of 10 long-range shots and finished with a career-high 25 points.

In the closing moments of Eastern Washington’s 81-74 win over Portland State on Thursday night, Bogdan Bliznyuk raised his arms in triumph and the Reese Court crowd responded in kind.
Then he sank two game-clinching foul shots on a night that saw him become Eastern’s all-time free-throw leader.

Brandon Hollins scored four points and Deontae North made a 3-pointer during the stretch, but Jack Perry hit a 3 with 15 seconds remaining to help seal it for Eastern Washington.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk went on a tear in the second half, scored 29 points on 12-for-18 shooting and Eastern Washington defeated North Dakota 77-64 on Sunday.
The win was the first time Eastern Washington (6-9, 1-1 Big Sky Conference) has won in Grand Forks.
The Eagles led 42-26 at halftime but North Dakota (4-9, 0-2) steadily worked the lead down to 50-47 when Tray Buchanan hit from 3 with 10:38 remaining.
Spight, Northern Colorado top Eastern Washington 88-75
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Andre Spight had 21 points and 10 rebounds to help Northern Colorado beat Eastern Washington 88-75 in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams on Friday night.
The Bears (10-4) pushed the lead into double digits for good during an 8-2 run that ended at 74-61, and followed with an 11-4 run that extended to their largest lead at 85-67 with 1:21 to play.
Eastern Washington beats NAIA’s Providence (MT) 94-66
CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Eastern Washington beat the University of Providence (Montana) of the NAIA 94-66 on Wednesday night.
Bliznyuk was 9 of 14 from the field for the Eagles (5-8) who have won the last two after losing five straight. Jesse Hunt added a career-best 16 points with 11 rebounds and Ty Gibson chipped in 12 points.
EWU shot 57 percent compared to 41.5 percent for Providence and had a 42-27 rebounding edge.

Eastern Washington basketball re-energized ahead of game against Seattle, former coach
After six games and two weeks on the road, Bogdan Bliznyuk could be excused for feeling a bit fatigued.
Except that he wasn’t. Honest.
“I feel good – coach gave us a couple of days off,” the Eastern Washington forward said after Tuesday’s practice at Reese Court.

Utah routs Eastern Washington 85-69
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Coming off a bad game in Las Vegas, David Collette did everything in his power to prevent a repeat performance.
Collette only played 18 minutes for Utah on Friday night, but he dominated every second he was on the floor. The senior forward scored a season-high 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting to help the Utes sprint away for an 85-69 victory over Eastern Washington.
Collette totaled just nine points in an 85-58 loss to UNLV on Wednesday.
Former Eastern Washington coach Jim Hayford still keeping tabs on Eagles, Shantay Legans
PULLMAN – Jim Hayford is busy building a foundation for the Seattle U program he inherited in March, but that hasn’t come at the cost of keeping tabs on the Eastern Washington he presided over for six years.
You can bet Hayford had both pupils glued to the television Tuesday night when the Eagles bucked Stanford 67-61 at Palo Alto’s Maples Pavilion for the first big win of the Shantay Legans era in Cheney.
E. Washington tops Stanford 67-61 to end Pac-12 drought
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Eastern Washington was winless against teams from the Pac-12 Conference for nearly 15 years. First-year Eagles coach Shantay Legans never had beaten Stanford at Maples Pavilion.
Both droughts ended Tuesday night as Eastern Washington climbed out of an early hole and led most of the way to claim a 67-61 victory over the Cardinal.
Bogdan Bliznyuk, a senior guard from the Ukraine, scored 23 points to lead the Eagles (2-1), who made 11 of 25 shots from the 3-point arc.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Bogdan Bliznyuk scored 18 points to help Eastern Washington cruise to an 82-61 victory over NAIA Walla Walla on Friday.
It was Shantay Legans' first collegiate win as a head coach. Legans spent the past eight seasons as an EWU assistant.
Bliznyuk made 5 of 9 field goals and was 8-of-9 shooting from the free-throw line. Jesse Hunt added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles. Ty Gibson finished with 11 points and Luka Vulikic had 10.
Changes abound for new season of Eastern Washington men’s basketball
The youth movement is under way at Reese Court.
It began last winter when Eastern Washington hired longtime assistant Shantay Legans and carried over into the energy of Thursday’s practice.
“We’re feeding off him,” Eagles forward Bogdan Bliznyuk said. “Everyone is playing really hard, everyone is engaged and everyone is on the same page.”
